Eureka on Trial

Check out our new online resource to mark 160 years

The Eureka Stockade was an eruption of suppressed anger on the Ballarat goldfields in 1854, and remains an ongoing symbol of popular protest.

The records that the government kept of its dealings with the mining community of Ballarat are focused around attempts to impose order through fines, arrests and trials.
To mark the 160th anniversary of the Eureka Stockade, we've created a new display of our digital collection using a brand new platform - Google Open Gallery - which allows reseachers a new way to experience, and share, our records.

View it here.

Archival Snapshot of the month

Victorian Railways' Sir Harold Winthrop Clapp

Each month our Access Services Officers select some of their favourite stories and records from the archive for our regular 'Archival Snapshot' blog post.

This month you can learn all about Sir Harold Winthrop Clapp (7 May 1875 - 21 October 1952), a transport administrator for the Victorian Railways.

In his 30 years in the position, Clapp revolutionised railways as we know it by introducing larger and more powerful locomotives, improved timetables, and expanded operations.

Read more about his achievements in the blog post by Lee Hooper.
