New to the archives...

Royal Children's Hospital Collection now available

Records from the Royal Children’s Hospital dating as far back as 1870 are now part of our collection here at the state archives.

Over the course of the last five years, records ranging from hospital minutes and correspondence, to autopsy registers and nurses’ lecture books have all been added to the collection.

The final transfer, which took place earlier this year, includes minutes, agenda and papers of the Committee of Management, patient histories, and nurse training records.

One interesting record we discovered in the collection was this September 1954 edition of the Parents’ Paper (pictured left).

Parliament House Open Day 2016

This year's Open Day celebrates milestones of Victoria's history

We're thrilled to again be a part of Parliament House Open Day this Sunday 6 March.

Parliament House Open Day is an opportunity for all Victorians to see inside the historic Parliament House, one of Melbourne's best-known land marks and the home of the Parliament of Victoria.

Visitors can go on a self guided tour through the building, followed by a stroll through the magnificent Parliamentary Gardens. You can sit in the Legislative Assembly and Legislative Council Chamber, visit the Parliamentary Library, and enjoy morning and afternoon tea in the Member's Dining Room. As you wander through this historic building, members and staff of the Parliament (and from PROV) will be on hand to answer your questions.

This year's Open Day will also feature interactive displays showcasing the 150 year history of Hansard and 160 years of Victorian Parliament.

Have you visited our Flickr gallery lately?

Moomba holds lots of special memories for Melburnians.

The Gas and Fuel Corporation was a frequent and highly visible participant in Melbourne’s annual Labour Day Moomba Parades between 1951 and 1995. The Corporation’s floats won a variety of awards and commendations.

Visit our Flickr gallery to take a stroll down memory lane - maybe you remember some of these amazing floats?
