Citizen Cope. Wednesday, January 15th, 8pm. Bijou Theater

Ask him how he knew it was time to record a new studio album and Clarence Greenwood, the trailblazing artist and producer better known as Citizen Cope, has a simple answer: “It was time.” Cope has built an entire career on trusting his gut and following his muse, and if his new album, ‘Heroin & Helicopters,’ is any indication, his instincts are sharper now than ever before.

As technically innovative as it is emotionally resonant, the record arrives at a uniquely challenging moment in modern American culture, when profound political polarization and social divisions seem to grow deeper by the day. Rather than dwell on our differences, though, Cope tunes in to what unites us here, drawing on everything from Chuck Brown and The Beatles to Randy Newman and Bill Withers, aiming his unique brand of urban folk inwards to reflect on the personal journeys we all undertake to embrace ourselves despite our flaws. Ticket info here.
9th Annual Knoxville Pie Contest. Sunday, January 19th, 5-7:30pm, The Press Room, 730 North Broadway

Who wants some PIE?

If you're a fan of pie (and who isn't?), please join Slow Food Tennessee Valley for our ninth annual Pie Contest on Sunday, January 19th, from 5 pm-7:30 pm at The Press Room on North Broadway.

This year's contest will be bigger and better than ever: for the first time, there will be professional and amateur divisions! That's right--in addition to our usual competition among home bakers, some of the best chefs in the area will be bringing their best pie game as well.

Here's how it will work. A total of 5 prizes will be awarded: Best amateur savory pie, Best amateur sweet pie, Best pro savory pie, Best pro sweet pie, and one Audience Favorite amongst all pies submitted. (Just think of the bragging rights if an amateur wins Audience Favorite!).

If you just want to eat pie, that’s fine too! Entrance fee is $10.00 per person. Full information and pie entry rules here.

Mystery Link: Expect The Unexpected!

Anyone with kids knows how annoying singing the same songs can be. Imagine trying to get your little one to sleep at 4am and going nuts after singing “Hush Little Baby” or “Twinkle Twinkle Little Star” of the 40th time. Don’t you wish you could feed the little one some gin and juice and get them to go to sleep? We’re not advocating feeding babies alcohol. Click here to see what we’re talking about.
Looking For Downtown Parking?

Downtown has free parking on nights and weekends, but with the expansion project at the State Street Garage, finding parking can be confusing. Keep up-to-date with the city of Knoxville parking blog by clicking here.

There's now an app that can help you strategically pick your parking garage destination, before you even start your car and pull out of the driveway. offers a free phone app that reports data from sensors at the entrances to City-owned downtown garages. So you can see, in real-time, how many parking spaces are available at each garage.

Visit to get the app. Enter Knoxville when prompted to enter a city or place.
