NCPM Proclamation Contest Winner

Congratulations to Adam Fulton, Community Development Director for Hermantown, Minnesota (and APA MN board treasurer), the winner of this year's Coast-to-Coast National Community Planning Month Proclamation Contest. He will receive a complimentary copy of the PAS report Street Graphics and the Law. Hermantown was selected at random from 41 communities in 24 states that submitted proclamations this year.
 

Humphrey Planning Alumni Event

Humphrey's Planning Student Organization (PSO) in a casual Happy Hour Mixer at The Red Sea (320 Cedar Ave S., on the West Bank in Minneapolis) on Thursday, December 3 at 5:00 PM. Alumni are invited to connect with current MURP students and share your perspectives in your life and career after Humphrey. Great Places Award Event

The Sensible Land Use Coalition’s 3rd Annual Great Places Awards Celebration and Program will be held Wednesday, December 9, from 5:00 - 8:00 PM at the Hopkins Center for the Arts, 1111 Main Street, Hopkins. We look forward to recognizing the best the region has to offer, and to inspiring all of our partners to continue creating great places. Register online by December 9.

AICP Exam Registration

If AICP certification is one of your professional goals, get ready to act. The month-long window to apply for the May 2016 Comprehensive Planning Exam opens on December 1. If you apply by December 7 you'll receive an early response; if your application is disapproved, you can address deficiencies and reapply for the May exam. 
 

Student Award Opportunities

APA is accepting nominations for Outstanding Planning Student Organization (PSO) Awards and AICP Student Project Awards through December 10. Nominate your work now for national recognition and cash prizes. 
 

New Transportation and Health Tool

A new tool from the U.S. Department of Transportation and the Centers for Disease Control allows comparisons between state or metropolitan area on transportation and public health indicators. Main indicators are available through an online interactive map. Finer grained data is available for download in spreadsheet form.
 

Mapping Traffic Fatalities

The Metrocosm website has a new interactive map showing every death on every U.S. road from 2003 to 2014. This map displays a point for each person who died in a vehicle crash during that time period, coded by age, gender, and role (e.g. driver, passenger, pedestrian, etc.)
 

Ethics of Consulting Webinar

The Private Practice Division is sponsoring a free webinar entitled The Ethics of Private Practice Consulting on Friday, December 4, 2015, 12:00-1:30 PM CST. Join a discussion about common ethical dilemmas of private consultants and the public officials who work with them. You’ll learn about: Planners’ ethical responsibilities to the public, clients, employers, profession, and colleagues; and rules set forth by the AICP Code of Ethics and Professional Conduct. Equity Issues in Transportation Webinar

The APA Transportation Planning Division is sponsoring a free webinar entitled Equity Issues in Transportation Planning: Getting More Voices into the Conversation on Friday, December, 11, 2015 12:00-1:30 PM CST.
