Speed Networking

APA MN will be hosting a speed networking event at the Freehouse in Minneapolis on Tuesday, February 25th from 5-7 pm. This will be a great opportunity for students and professionals at all stages of their careers to connect with other planners in the Twin Cities. The Freehouse, located at 701 Washington Ave N, is one of Minneapolis's newest restaurants. Please RSVP to Chelsey Armstrong by February 18 if you plan to attend.

Brownfields Funding Session

The Metropolitan Council is holding an information session to address local financial resources for investigating and cleaning up brownfield sites. Agency representatives will discuss programs and funds available from the Minnesota Department of Employment and Economic Development (DEED), Metropolitan Council, Hennepin County, and Ramsey County. The session will be held on March 6, from 10:00-11:30 AM at the Plymouth Library, 15700 36th Avenue North, Plymouth. For more information, click here.
 

Solar Powering Minnesota Conference

The Solar Powering Minnesota Conference will be held March 7 from 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM, at the University of St. Thomas, St. Paul. Conference topics include 2013 legislative outcomes, financing, incentives, utility programs, permitting, storage, and community solar gardens. For more information and to register, click here. Latinos and Planning Scholarship

The Latinos and Planning Division of the APA strives to address planning issues affecting Latino communities in the U.S. and to increase the number of Latinos in the profession. The Latinos and Planning Scholarship is open to third and fourth year undergraduate students and first and second year master’s degree students. One scholarship of $500 is awarded per semester to be used for fees, books, or academic materials contingent on available funding. What to Build Program

The Sensible Land Use Coalition is holding a program called "What to Build, Where, and Will It Sell?" on February 26, 2014, 11:30 AM - 1:30 PM, at DoubleTree Park Place, 1600 Park Place Boulevard, St. Louis Park, MN. This program brings together a panel of regional industry experts who will focus on the status and future of the residential and commercial market in the Twin Cities region. Planning and Drought Webinar

A free webinar about planning and drought will be held February 12, 1:00-2:00 PM. This program is sponsored by the National Drought Mitigation Center, and will focus on the new Planning Advisory Service report on planning and drought. Click here to learn more and register.
 

Great Lakes Coastal Storms Survey

The University of Wisconsin Sea Grant Institute, in conjunction with the NOAA Great Lakes Coastal Storms Program, is conducting a survey to learn the planning and implementation needs of Great Lakes coastal planners and managers to mitigate and adapt to coastal storm hazards. New Interactive Mapping Tool

The U.S. Census Bureau has launched a new interactive tool that maps eight statistics from the American Community Survey at the neighborhood level. Census Explorer is an engaging new interactive mapping tool from the U.S. Census Bureau that provides neighborhood level statistics using updated data from the 2008-2012 American Community Survey (ACS).
 

Planning Out of the Box Webinar

The New England Chapter of the APA is hosting a free webinar entitled “Planning Out of the Box and Keeping your Plan off of the Shelf,” on February 28, 12:00 – 1:30 PM CST. This session focuses on examples of two engaging, community‐based plans now being implemented to achieve active, vibrant environments in an existing downtown and a new TOD neighborhood. To register, click here.
 

Ferries Webinar

The Transportation Planning Division of the APA is hosting a free webinar entitled “Ferries: An Integral Part of Public Transit,” on February 21, 12:00 - 1:30 PM CST. The United States’ growth and need to meet mobility, environmental, and energy objectives place demands on public transit systems in both urban and rural areas. This webinar will address the viability of ferry services and their integration into public transportation systems. To register, click here.
