Report from the Language Show, and how you can support languages!

Welcome to our November update!

Much to update you on, and a call for all to write to their MPs in support of languages. Read on!
S2F & The Language Show Live - a huge success!

S2F formed a strategic partnership with the Language Show Live for 2014.

This year, the Show hosted a series of high-profile events for linguists, policymakers and the press - with presentations from the British Academy, the Guardian, Baroness Coussins of the All Party Parliamentary Group on Modern Languages and representatives from business, education, teachers' unions and language associations.

As well as running our own stand, we were delighted to work together with ALL and NALA to bring the Primary Languages Hub to the Show for the first time.

It was great to meet so many supporters - both old and new - and really encouraging to receive declarations of support from new organisations and individuals.

Read more here - and we hope to see you there next year!

S2F supports the Manifesto for Languages

The All Party Parliamentary Group on Modern Languages, chaired by Baroness Coussins, has published its Manifesto for Languages. It calls for all political parties to include specific policies in their manifestos to support languages.

S2F is proud to be a launch supporter of the initiative, along with over 50 other organisations and businesses.

S2F is launching its own Write to Your MP campaign, which everyone can join, to encourage all our MPs to declare their support for the APPG's Manifesto in the run-up to the election.

We do hope you will consider writing to your MP - read more here.

Write to your MP

By writing to your MP, you can help us support the APPG on Modern Languages' Manifesto for Languages - calling for pro-languages policies from Westminster. On the S2F website you will find full details, including sample letters. We will publish all replies received and aim to create a wave of support for language learning reaching every constituency!

1000 Words winners!

The final of the Strictly 1000 words competition was held at the Language Show Live in London on 18 October, presided over by the wonderful Larry Lamb. You can still take up the 1000 words challenge and you and your pupils can register free of charge - full report on this year's winners and how to register are here!

Mike Kelly awarded an OBE

Prof Mike Kelly, Honorary Secretary of Speak to the Future and one of the campaign's founders, was awarded an OBE in the Queen's birthday honours this year for services to Higher Education and European cooperation.

Congratulations to you, Mike!
