Thanks for a
Great First Year!

December marks the one year anniversary of Salubrious Massage. As I reflect on my good fortunes—all the wonderful people I've met, the new techniques that I have learned, and the better sense of self that I have gained—I am so grateful to have this opportunity to be a part of your healthy life. It's with renewed enthusiasm that I look forward to next year.
This new monthly newsletter will serve as a fun reminder to take an interest in your health and well-being. With a variety of sections—including Healthful Habits, Know Your Muscles and How to Keep Them Happy, Monthly Affirmation, and News and Events—you might find something of interest that will help focus (even if just for a few seconds) your intention on yourself.
In gratitude to you for your incredible support, I will be offering a $10 discount to any repeat client* for their 2011 birthday. At any time during your birthday month, treat yourself to one hour-long massage and receive $10 off! All you have to do is click here for a printable coupon that you can redeem with me during your 2011 birthday month. I will continue to offer a discount for first-time clients.
*A repeat client is someone who I have seen more than once before their 2011 birthday month.

Great Holiday Gift Idea

Don't know what to get someone for the holidays? How about a personalized gift certificate from Salubrious Massage? Everyone can benefit from a massage—especially so around the busy holidays and as we begin the new year with the wish of renewal. Give the gift of relaxation and health to your family and friends by clicking on the gift certificate image below.

Monthly Affirmation

Often I take the time to enjoy a cup of tea, especially after exercise, to soothe my throat and lungs. You know how Yogi brand has those little inspirational words on the tag? Well this one caught my eye and I have been returning to it when I need to remind myself about the body/mind connection.

To be healthy: eat right, walk right, and talk to yourself right.

Know Your Muscles and
How to Keep Them Happy

Muscle: Quadratus Lumborum

Attachment Sites: Bottom rib, TVPs* of L1-L4, and Posterior iliac crest
(*Transverse processes (TVPs) - the little bones that stick out from the sides of the vertebrae)

Action: Laterally lifts the pelvis, flexes the vertebral column to the same side

(Ex. The muscle that helps you hold a toddler on your hip!)
How to Stretch:

1. Sit or stand with a straight spine.
2. As you take a deep breath, reach one of your arms straight up, with your palm facing in as you lengthen your body.
3. As you exhale, continue to reach out through your fingertips as you tip your body so your palm faces down.
4. Continue to reach and bend until you feel a slight stretch through the side body of your extended arm.
5. Take several deep breaths, increasing the reach and tip with each exhale. Repeat on the opposite side. Try with both arms raised.
