Organizing Ideas and Tips

Take Control of your Digital Photos

Since my last newsletter, the majority of my work hours have been spent helping my clients organize their digital photos.  I realize that this is a challenge for many people, and so I thought I would give you some ideas to help make the process easier.

Did you know that we take more photos these days than ever before in history?  Do you have a system in place on your computer to manage all your digital photos?  Do you even succeed in getting all your digital photos onto your computer?

Here are 6 quick steps for getting your digital photo life under control.
  1. Choose photo organizing software that not only organizes, but has some basic editing functions.
  2. Keep your photos in file folders on your computer – organized by date or theme.  Hopefully the software you choose will help with this process.
  3. Develop a system for regular uploads – write it down and schedule a regular time to upload all your photos from all your devices onto your computer.  Some systems will do this automatically, and some manually.
  4. Whenever you choose to upload, take the time to delete unwanted photos and tag the best ones for easy access later.
  5. Back-up!  Be sure you have an automatic back-up system in place so that all your photos are saved in 3 places.  I recommend your computer, an external drive, and in the Cloud.
  6. Share!  Take the time to email photos to friends and family – or put them on a share site so others can enjoy them.  And I always like to create a photo book so that you can share a hard copy as well!
Think about how important your photos are to you.  Why did you take that photo in the first place?  Did you share it the way you intended?  Are your photos important enough to do something now to ensure they will still be available to us in the future?  Do you know anybody whose computer crashed and they lost all their digital photos?

I want to help you all protect your precious memories.  Feel free to email me with any questions, or to book a session if you want some professional help.

New Digital Photo
Organizing Tool!

Cari's Favorite Apps

Mylio

I’m excited about a new photo organizing tool that I am currently trying out.  It has an annual subscription fee, but it is a great way to gather, organize and access all of your photos so you can enjoy them on all your computers and devices, with or without the Cloud.  Mylio works on Mac, Windows, and iOS devices.
Mylio is the only photography management software system that allows you to organize and access large photo libraries anytime, anywhere.  Mylio automatically manages multiple copies of your photo library. Your new photos are protected because Mylio automatically copies them to several devices, hard drives or the Cloud.  Your photos and information are always private and never shared. The annual subscription fee ranges from $50 - $250 depending on how many photos you have.

Give the free trial a try, or email me to talk about whether or not this is the right system for you!

Photo Books are a great way to

Photo Books

Another great reason to organize your digital photos, is that then they are ready to create photo books!  Photo books are a great way to create a lasting memory of a trip or your family events.  After you return from a trip, don’t wait to get your photos off your camera and create a photo book of your trip.
