Organizing Ideas and Tips

Holiday Planning

Halloween just passed by, and for me that means it is time to start thinking about the holidays. I know that mere thought might bring stress to many people, but I actually believe that the earlier you start planning, the less stress it will bring.

So take a little time this week to write down your holiday tasks.  Regardless of which holidays you celebrate, these are some of the things to consider:
  • Make plans with your family.
  • If you do any gift exchanges, create a plan.
  • Make lists of gifts to purchase.
  • If you send holiday cards, make a plan.
  • Purchase or make holiday teacher gifts.
  • Prepare tips for anyone to whom you give holiday tips.
  • Start menus for holiday parties.
  • Create a time-line or task list for each project.
    • Invitations
    • Decorations
    • Food
    • Entertainment
I am not suggesting that at this point you need to get too detailed, but laying out the basic projects will help everything seem more controllable.  Sometimes just assigning a date to the first step of a project, will get it on your calendar so that you don’t start it too late.

And finally, create these lists in a format that you can use again next year!  Each year will get easier and easier!

Digitally store ideas and lists!

Cari's App of the Month

Evernote

Evernote is a fun way to gather ideas for the holidays.  Recipes and wish lists or ideas for gift giving are all great uses for Evernote.  Clip web articles, capture handwritten notes, and snap photos to keep the physical and digital details of your projects with you at all times.  Give it a try!

Keep your coupons close!

Cari's Product of the Month

Coupon Caddy

Clipping coupons can save you some money, but only if you have the coupons with you when you need them.  I recommend keeping your coupons in a 13-pocket caddy in your car.  Add coupons to it when you find them, and get in the habit of checking it before you go in the store.  You can find these at all office supply stores, or here is one at Amazon for just $7.00.

Make great photo gifts!

Cari's Service of the Month

Photo Gifts

This is a great time of year to use your family photos to create gifts.  What could be more precious for your family than a calendar or decoration with a special photo memory on it.  Or an amazing print framed on the wall.  Take some time to look though your photos and find some special ones to make gifts for your family and friends.  If you need help, contact me or a Photo Organizer in your area through Appo.
