THURSDAY JANUARY 8
NIGHT BAZAAR @ THE SPECIAL EFFECTS FESTIVAL
JACKIE FACTORY Legend HEATHER LITTEER curates the opening night party of the SPECIAL EFFECTS FESTIVAL with performances by fierce females from the downtown arts scene including CHI CHI VALENTI, MARTI BEAUT and VANGELINE. Coming out of the performance scene centered around MOTHER and JACKIE 60 in the Meat Packing District in the 90s (and continuing at HOWL! FESTIVAL and JACKIE FACTORY events) these artists defined, expanded and reinvented what ‘downtown’ means. Litteer's project provides crucial links between threads of performance traditions and offer perspectives on the particular conditions that give rise to urban performance cultures.

The exciting new East Village gallery/performance space HOWL HAPPENING at 6 East 1st Street is still under construction, but nearing an early Spring 2015 opening. (THE JACKIE FACTORY is collaborating on this effort and will curate selected performance events there.) Beginning this month the ACTOR'S FUND christens the space with a return of their OBAMACARE FOR ARTISTS workshops and the first of their East Village AFFORDABLE HOUSING seminars. Last year close to 100 of our artist and performance community obtained affordable or free health insurance after attending one of these seminars, co-hosted by HOWL HELP. The 2015 window to enroll is closing on February 15 - don't miss your chance!

This free workshop will help you understand the Affordable Care Act and provide you with clear guidance on what your options are. It’s an excellent opportunity for unbiased counseling on an important topic, and includes a Q&A session. RENATA MARINARO, Exchange Navigator and Eastern Region Health Services Director of THE ACTORS FUND, will answer questions like:
What do the "Obamacare" plans cover?
What are the penalties if I don't have insurance?
My income is low – can I get a break on insurance premiums? (Yes!)
Who is eligible for free insurance? How do I apply?
I don't like the plan I was on – how do I pick a new one?
I'm uninsured; where can I go for discounted care?
