Since 2010, 541 workshops have been presented, with a total of 3,333 women and children participants!

Danse contre la violence (Dance Against Violence) 10th Anniversary Fundraising Campaign in Review

Thanks to you, we have exceeded our donation goal! Given the particular circumstances, we had chosen a long fundraising campaign, from May 2020 to June 2021, and we certainly don't regret our choice. Your ongoing support has allowed us to maintain, improve and even diversify our services, notably with online workshops and virtual care videos. Even though the pandemic reduced the number of participations compared to past years, the workshops were an undeniable source of warmth, vitality and comfort for the women and children who attended.
A thank you cocktail party is planned for our contributors in May or June 2022.

Our Activities for the Next Few Years (2021-22)

A great season is well underway, with highly exciting partnerships! Already more than 50 workshops are planned, and we have set the goal of 500 women and children participants in 3 Montreal districts!

In association with:

The 2 shelters, Assistance aux femmes (Women's assistance) and La Dauphinelle.
Le Centre d'Apprentissage parallèle, a socio-professional reintegration centre that supports people experiencing emotional and psychological difficulties through creation and art therapy.
Women aware / Femmes averties, a community centre working against domestic violence through victim support and prevention.
The Women's Centre of Montréal in a new project to provide workshops to Indigenous and immigrant women.

More exciting news:

The 21-22 season will also be used to form and gradually integrate Victoria May, our new dancer-moderator, into the team.
For the first time, we will be hosting monthly workshops open to all self-identified women. These workshops will be held just two steps away from the Place des Arts metro station, starting in January 2022. If you are interested, please contact Christine Charles at coordination@montrealdanse.com.
Through a precious collaboration with Bernard Imbert and the multimedia integration techniques program of Cégep Édouard Montpetit, we will be able to enrich our bank of virtual care videos and develop a digital platform that will greatly facilitate the organization of the workshops and communication between team members.
Finally, Dance against Violence has been asked to be part of a documentary about dance as a social and spiritual dynamic and its healing power. We can't wait to tell you more !

We attended the Culture Days on September 25, 2021, with a Dance against Violence workshop led by Rachel Harris at the Centre d'Apprentissage Parallèle.
12 Days of Activism Against Violence Against Women Campaign: we will raise awareness and hold a free movement workshop (in person) on December 4 from 11 AM to 12:30 PM at the Ashtanga Studio, 372 Sainte-Catherine St. West, Suite 118 / Studio 3, open to everyone! 16 Days of Activism Against Gender Violence Campaign: Dance against Violence is invited to present its activities at the virtual roundtable on December 10, organized by Women aware / Femmes averties: “Feminicide in Quebec: A Reflection on Our Past and Current Struggle for a Future Without Gender-Based Violence.” More information on the Facebook event.

November 30: Giving Tuesday

November 30 is Giving Tuesday. On this special day, participants from the Centre d'Apprentissage Parallèle will share a personal movement with you through our social networks (Danse contre la violence and Centre d'Apprentissage Parallèle).
Donations will be shared between Centre d'Apprentissage Parallèle and Dance against Violence. And you, what will you give ?

DANCE AGAINST VIOLENCE MISSION

Danse contre la violence (Dance Against Violence) is a major cause, unique in Quebec, dedicated to the well-being of women and their children who have been victims of various types of violence. Through movement workshops, Montréal Danse helps them reclaim their bodies and regain their self-esteem while encouraging family cohesion.

Women are at the core of our activities: Victims of conjugal, intrafamilial and sexual violence, women in a situation of homelessness or isolation, women suffering from mental health problems or drug addiction, and criminalized women. Our activities may or may not include children, depending on the situation.
