Since the last Newsletter our Treasurer, Peter Frater, who has served the Association so well for so many years, has retired from the role. He is still on the wider Executive Committee. We are very grateful to Peter for all he has done for us, thank you Peter! The Executive is able to fill vacancies between AGMs, and has appointed Jane Patterson to be our new Treasurer. We are very pleased that Jane is willing and able to take this on, and warmly welcome her.The next Residents' Association Meeting will be on Monday February 15th 2016, 7.30 pm in the Newtown Hall, 71 Daniell St. [We have January off]. Please put this in your diary - and at the same time you can note that Association meetings will on the 3rd Monday of every month until November, at the same time and place. One item for the February agenda is setting the subscription rate - it is in our rules that we set this in February, to be effective from the start of the financial year in July. Its time to consider whether or not to continue our policy of having the lowest possible sub - a gold coin. The first meeting of the year is also a good time to discuss what you would like to see your Association doing in 2016, and perhaps to consider how you personally might like to get involved.
Planning is well underway for the 2016 Newtown Festival, particularly the Street Fair Day on Sunday March 6th. See the Festival website for more information. And its not too late to book a stall.
The Newtown Festival Street Fair Day is the central event of the Newtown Festival, but its not the only event. The Festival provides an umbrella for lots of things going on locally during February and March. If you are organising an event, or an exhibition, or something similar during this time we would be very happy to include it and promote it in the Celebrate Newtown! programme. WCC Consultation on the Annual Plan
Wellington City Council will soon be preparing the Annual Plan 2016/17 and the Mayor has written to say: "...we are interested in proposals and ideas from our community that will help us grow or diversify Wellington’s economy, be a smart resilient city, improve services and use of existing assets including parks, roads and libraries, and save money.
Working within the framework of the LTP budget, elected members will consider your feedback when we prepare the Annual Plan Consultation Document...."
We send out newsletters at least once a month, in the week leading up to the monthly meeting (on the 3rd Monday of the month, except for December and January), and sometimes twice a month if there is a lot to say.
