Parking changes for Owen Street
A recent item from Wellington City Council will interest those who have been so frustrated by the pressure on parking in local streets.  There is a proposal to have residents' only parking 8am-6pm between 41 and 45 Owen St.  See the proposal here.  Feedback to Council closes on 11th March.  This an example of people-power, as it is a response to protests from local residents. It seems likely that there will be many other local residents who feel this small change does't go far enough, what do you think?

Festival Time!
The Residents' Association Newtown Festival Committee is excited to be bringing you the Newtown Festival for the 20th time!  The big central event is the Street Fair on Sunday March 6th, but we also celebrate all the other great things that happen in Newtown.  We have already enjoyed the hugely successful No Place Like Home Newtown Treasure Hunt organised  by the Community and Cultural Centre and Timebank - what a wonderful afternoon it was!  There are other events coming up, for instance an exhibition opening at Black Coffee tomorrow, Friday 26th, and 121 Skate Festival running from 2pm-7.30pm on Saturday March 5th at Treetops which will combine skateboarding, live music, food, drink and art.  See the Festival website for more events, and at the website check out the interactive Fairday programme - we're very grateful to our web gurus for making it so easy to use!  Most of the acts are there now, just a few to come.  Or go to our Facebook page - even better if you can spread the word by liking and sharing our posts and events.
Ways to get involved with the Festival
Many of you reading this will be part of the Festival already, as organisers, performers or stallholders. Perhaps you look after a recycling station on Fairday, or plan to have a garage sale at the Great Newtown Garage Sale on March 12th.  If you aren't already involved but might like to be, read on. Your help is needed in several areas, starting this Saturday with getting the central Newtown area cleaned up and ready for visitors!
This Saturday 27th February from 9am – 12noon

Painting, Cleaning, Gardening – and free BBQ for volunteers!
We really need more willing hands to make this happen, so do come along -  its a fun and satisfying way to spend an hour or two. All equipment provided, just wear old clothes.
Keep Newtown Clean events are now organised by the Residents' Association, supported by Wellington City Council, S B Maintenance, Amadeus Hair Salon and Newtown New World.
We meet outside the Newtown Mall – see you there!

Be a 'car walker' from 5pm on Fairday
Put on a Newtown Festival hi-viz vest and be part of the action!
At 5pm the stalls in most streets stop trading and the crowds you see here start to clear. If we waited for everyone to go before we let stallholders bring their cars in we would be there for hours, so when there is enough clear space to be safe we let the vehicles in, with each and every car walked through the site by a marshal.  We need lots of sensible, patient people to do this - if this sounds like you do give us a ring on 389 7316 or an email newtownfestival@gmail,com
Take part in the Great Newtown Garage Sale Day
You are invited to transform your garage or front yard into a stall, clear out all those items you never use, and make some quick cash! Go to the website event page to register, and get free promotion.

Buyers are wanted too! You can see the sales being added to the map on the website above, or get a map from a local cafe on the day.

Saturday March 12th from 9am
