The 2016 Newtown Festival Street Fair is on Sunday March 6th: early bird rates will only apply until the end of December. Showcase your wares to the Festival's mega crowds - an estimated 75,000+ people came through this year. Community and sports groups can have information stalls from as little as $25, and if you want to fundraise for a good cause please get in touch with us at newtownfestival@gmail.com to discuss your ideas and ask about a discount. You can book here now.
Thank you to all stallholders who have booked already!
Stall bookings flooded in after our last Newsletter, and are still coming at a good rate. Its good to see so many of you so enthusiastic about our Newtown Festival Street Fair, and also good that you have taken the advice to pay early. We do urge those who haven't paid yet to remember that after 1st January it is going to cost you more - the early bird rates are only for people who pay by the end of the year. We will re-send invoices as a reminder. If you have booked and haven't got an invoice please let us know - sometimes they go astray. And if you haven't even booked yet, best to do it soon!
Memories of Past Fairs
In 2016 we will be having the 20th Newtown Festival Street Fair. From modest beginnings in Carrarra Park in 1995 and 1996, followed by a comparatively small Fair in Riddiford St in 1997, the Newtown Festival Street Fair has grown to become New Zealand’s largest free, annual street market and performance event.
For this special anniversary we are trying to track down photos and memories from the past. We are wondering which stallholders have been coming the longest, but at present we can't find the records of the very early days. Can you help us? Do you think you might be the longest serving stallholder? However long you have been coming we would love to hear your memories of past fairs, and if you have photos you can share with us that would be wonderful! Do let us know, at newtownfestival@gmail.com.
Recycling Initiatives for 2016
Our last newsletter told you about the recycling team's award-winning success this year. [This is a link to Stall News 16.01, in case you are new to the list or have lost track of it.] Next year we hope that the Fair will set new records for being environmentally friendly! As part of this effort, in the weeks before and on Fair day itself a recycling adviser will be available to help stallholders, especially food stalls, to minimise the waste that goes to the landfill. We look forward to being able to tell you more about this closer to the time.
Best wishes for the Festive Season!
Judging by the number of Christmas markets, for some of you this must be the busiest time of the year! Whether you are working flat out or on holiday, we hope that these next weeks bring you everything you hope for! Very best wishes from all of us in the Newtown Festival Team.
