Newtown Festival: stall news 2, July 2014
The big news for the Newtown Festival Team in recent times was making the finals of the Wellington Gold Awards in the Vibrant Gold category! Much excitement, even though we didn’t win – there was competition from several excellent events, and Wings Over Wairarapa took home the award. We prepared a video for the judges, and a slightly longer version is now available from this link or on our Newtown Festival Facebook page – do look at (and ‘like’!) the page if you are a Facebook fan.
Please note that we have started to do site allocations and we plan to complete the main street in November this year, instead of waiting till February as we have in the past. If you are planning to come but haven’t booked yet, you can do it now! Book now.
Today there are 78 bookings in the system. That’s excellent for this time of year, but we are expecting a lot more before November. Remember that we only allocate sites to people who have paid, and the date you paid (not just the date you booked) is one of the things we look at in deciding who has priority in popular sites, so if you haven’t paid yet don’t delay!
Food stalls – frequently asked questions
Q – I have already paid for a mobile food licence – why is the Festival charging me for another $50 ‘food licence fee’?
A - It’s a bit misleading that we call the $50 a 'food licence fee'; the website booking system is going to be revamped and we will probably change this to 'food stall fee' or similar. The $50 goes towards paying some of the extra admin costs in collecting and collating all the food forms and licences required by the Wellington City Council, but the major cost is rubbish collection - we pay thousands of $$ for hiring and collecting the bins and most of this rubbish comes from takeaway food stalls.
Q – I do sell edible items, but they are pre-packaged and not for consuming at the Fair – do I still have to tick the ‘selling food’ box?
A - Yes please, the Council wants to see food forms when any sort of food is sold. However if there is no likelihood of rubbish from your stall let us know in the ‘preferences’ box on the form and we will be able to adjust the invoice and remove the extra $50.
Would you like to share a stall?
We have had an inquiry from a stallholder who has a 3x3 gazebo, but is worried that she won’t cover the $175 cost of a 3x3 stall. Would anyone like to share with her? There might be others in a similar position – if you email us on firstname.lastname@example.org
we will put prospective sharers in touch with each other. Be warned though – we take no responsibility for whether the arrangement works out or not!
