Roundtable on Nuclear Waste
and the North Shore of Lake Huron
Join us for a round (the picnic) table discussion of nuclear waste and the current investigation by the Nuclear Waste Management Organization of three "potentially suitable areas" in the north shore of Lake Huron, including one just north of Chutes Provincial Park. An informal but informative discussion about the Nuclear Waste Management Organization's investigations for a nuclear waste burial site, which includes the three sites on the north shore of Lake Huron, an additional 11 sites on the north shore of Lake Superior, four sites in northwestern Ontario, and three general areas in southwestern Ontario.
Please register in advance for location details. Park entry fees are $5.25 for two hours, $7.50 for four hours, and a day pass is $14.50 (all day, until 10 pm)
Northwatch Summer Meeting - July 23 & 24
Chutes Provincial Park, Massey
Northwatch's Summer Meeting is all about sharing some outside time, stories, news and updates. Held each year in a camp ground - mostly provincial parks - the weekend is an opportunity to get together for some unstructured discussions.
This year's location was chosen because of it's proximity to one of the sites being investigated by the Nuclear Waste Management Organization as a potential burial site  for all of Canada's nuclear waste, against the will of the closest municipality.  Register today or ask for details.

Located just off Highway 17, the Trans-Canada Highway, Chutes is a popular stop-over for those travelling east or west. The park also makes a great base to explore the area, which includes Manitoulin Island, Sudbury and the North Channel of Lake Huron. The campground is well laid out and the comfort station is modern.

Chutes Provincial Park offers comfort stations, flush toilets, laundry,  park store, picnic shelter, pet exercise area, hiking, swimming, fishing, biking  and birding activities.

The "official" camping weekend is noon Saturday to noon Sunday, but feel free to set up camp earlier - some will arrive Friday evening - or stay on longer. A couple of highlights:
  • 2 pm "Roundtable" discussion of nuclear waste and the current investigation by the Nuclear Waste Management Organization of three "potentially suitable areas" in the north shore of Lake Huron, including one just north of Chutes Provincial Park
  • 6 pm Potluck Supper
  • Saturday evening campfire
  • Optional Sunday field trip to the NWMO's candidate area for nuclear waste burial in the Spanish Forest (t.b.c.)
