As you may know, beyond my investment in several historic wineries in Bordeaux (including Château Pape Clement), I have produced a Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon since 2004. This is a small-production wine of exceptional quality that reflects the unique link between the world’s two best regions for Cabernet Sauvignon.
2018 was one of the highest quality vintages in Napa Valley for the last several decades, so I decided this would be the perfect time to share it as an exclusive mailing list release – Bernard Magrez Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon 2018.

2018 – One of Napa Valley’s Best Vintages Ever!
This was a vintage that had all of the markers of a fantastic growing season from the very beginning. Budbreak was later than the previous few vintages due to a mild winter and a cooler than average spring. These lower temperatures, particularly in the evening, continued through the summer, allowing the vines to rest after warm, dry summer days. When it came to the harvest season, this balance continued as we achieved fantastic ripening and concentration thanks to a late warm spell just before picking and the cold nights added to the freshness and acidity of our Cabernet. The fruit from this vintage was incredibly vibrant with intense aromatics and ripe but polished tannins, giving all the signs that 2018 would be a vintage to remember.

Bernard Magrez Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon 2018
This wine combines our Bordelais philosophies and style with the incredible talents and Napa Valley knowledge of our incomparable winemaker – Aaron Pott. Aaron is known around the globe for his stunning Napa Cabernets (including “cult” favorite Quintessa), but he actually grew to fame from his time in Bordeaux – producing the wines for Château Troplong-Mondot and La Tour Figeac.
In this 100% Cabernet Sauvignon from the Rutherford district of Napa Valley, Aaron has created a beautiful wine influenced by his Bordeaux experience that highlights the potential for restraint and elegance in addition to the ripeness and complexity characteristic of this region. The grapes are sourced from a single 2-acre plot, all picked at night to maximize the freshness and acidity key for an elegant style of Cabernet.
After multiple sortings, the wine was vinified in 100% new French oak barrels with a cold, long 30-day maceration. After finishing malolactic fermentation in French oak, the wine was aged further in new wood for 24 months before bottling. Only 200 cases were made in this highly collectible 2018 vintage, which has the potential to age for over 15 years.
