Dear <<First Name>>,

It is with great enthusiasm that I bring you this offer of our newly released wines from the charming 2014 vintage. In addition, I am pleased to announce that changes to our U.S. distribution partners will allow our wines to be more readily available across the country, and to be offered direct to you at more favorable prices than in the past.

The 2014 vintage benefited from quite favorable growing conditions in spite of a season of contrasts. Summer was cold and cloudy: a complete change after the first six months where sun and heat had been predominant. The grape maturing was very slow in August but fortunately, in September, the famous north wind arrived right on time, bringing dry, sunny and cool weather -- the ideal conditions to complete the bunch maturity. After that the sun settled in for good, enabling the grapes to ripen fully in the best possible conditions and this until the harvest of very ripe grapes and a yield that met our expectations.

2014 is a well-balanced vintage, probably due to the various conditions it had to go through during the growing seasons: ‘hot’ until the end of July, then ‘cool’ in August (hence a slow maturing that suits Pinot Noir well) to finish with ideal conditions in September. Is this the reason why this wine presents such a seductive character, ‘sweet’ without being coarse, with depth and matter to it? It is difficult to answer this question as our comprehension of the constituting factors giving birth to a vintage style is still incomplete, but it is undoubtedly a promising vintage that will charm lovers of Burgundy and great wine around the world.

Vinification was carried out harmoniously and right from the beginning of aging -- the wines already presented the charming profile that is typical of the vintage and they have kept these features up to now. After 18 months of maturing in new oak and the numerous blind tasting sessions of our seven different cuvées (each cuvée being composed according to the different micro-climates and vine ages) we decided to vinify two wines in 2014: The Clos de Tart and the Forge de Tart. 2014 was the last vinification that Sylvain Pitiot carried out; as his successor we collaborated in the maturation process, and I was in charge of the bottling operations.
Clos de Tart Grand Cru 2014:
The 2014 Clos de Tart has an intense ruby red robe, an open and complex nose with a wide spectrum of aromas (black and red fruit, old rose, violet and spices). The palate is concentrated, powerful and dense though exhaling a hint of silky and delicate tannin that is typical of our old vines, which draw from their wise and deep roots, all the nuances and the complexity of this great terroir.

Neal Martin from The Wine Advocate gave the Clos de Tart 2014 an excellent critique and described the wine as follows: “It has a very well defined bouquet with cranberry and wild strawberry fruit, fine mineral tones and is quite harmonious with hints of wet limestone. The palate is medium-bodied and I feel this has tightened up since I tasted it in September 2015. The fruit also seems a little darker. Blackberry and wild cherry, with a hint of cola and certainly more tangible mineralité on the finish, as you can feel the mouth tingling long after it has bid adieu.” 95-97 points

La Forge de Tart Premier Cru 2014:
In addition to the Clos de Tart Grand Cru 2014, I am pleased to offer La Forge de Tart Premier Cru 2014, the second wine of the Clos de Tart estate made only in certain vintages. Produced from the fruit of younger vines, La Forge de Tart is less structured and ready to drink earlier than Clos de Tart Grand Cru.

The 2014 La Forge de Tart expresses the same characteristics as the Clos de Tart with undoubtedly less complexity but a more fiery and straightforward style. The fruit displays the typical aromas of young vines, while the palate exhales a ‘juicy’ and lively character that makes this wine very attractive.
