News from your General Manager
Over the past couple months we’ve experienced a number of great improvements to our storefront. If you have been in recently I’m sure you’ve noticed something different.
In mid-November we had a long-awaited upgrade to our produce cooler, dairy cooler, and frozen case. The upgraded cases were supported by a grant from the USDA Local Food Promotion Program that we received in late 2015. We are so happy to have this new equipment up and running and have already experienced many positive results. So far we’ve been able to increase our product selection tremendously. In addition to an improved selection, our energy usage has significantly reduced, our storefront is much quieter, and our products look better than ever! Customer feedback since we installed the new coolers has been fantastic. If you haven’t had the chance to come in to see the new equipment, I invite you to take a good look at our new offerings.
During the month of December we had some help from proud member-owner Joel Davis in installing a new sound system in the store. Next time you come in you’ll notice how great the music sounds since we got speakers installed throughout the store. In case our store wasn’t already a great place to spend time, we’re really at another level now. As each month passes the staff feels more and more like the co-op is a unique place that is an important part of what makes Gardiner a great place to be! We look forward to making it and even better place with your help.
See you at the Co-op,
Fedco Seed Order
It’s that time again! This year, we will be doing group orders on SEEDS, TUBERS and SUPPLIES. Size of discount depends on how many participate, but last year seed orders received over a 20% discount! The entire order will be delivered to the Gardiner Food Co-op. We will be placing our order fairly early this year so that it will arrive in time for people to start seedlings indoors. You may place your order either online or on paper. The deadline for submitting your order is TUESDAY JANUARY 31. See the following link for full details:https://kennebeclocalfood.files.wordpress.com/2012/03/fedco2017.pdf

In addition to providing a tutorial on how to build a worm bin, he also explains the following: moisture, temperature, and insect control; aeration, feeding, location, and space requirements; convenience, cost, and worm species; and how to utilize worm castings as soil amendments for the garden. This workshop is limited to ten participants. Those who RSVP will receive a free worm bin. E-mail Shawn at email@example.com to signup. FREE and OPEN to the public.
Tuesdays: Open Mic Night at Niche, INC from 5 to 8 p.m.
