Seasons Greetings,

This month we have a featured writer, Brooke Wilkinson. Brooke is one of my childhood friends and a dear sister-in-Christ, from my hometown in Michigan. Please give her a warm California welcome. I hope and pray each of you have a very Merry Christmas filled with Christ's Love-Ana Martinez.

Happy December! We are a fortunate people to live in the land of plenty. I am a Michigander, born and raised in the heart of the thumb. If you were with me right now, I would raise my hand, the shape of the mitten state and point directly to where home is on this always with me map! December in this great state means gray skies, freezing temperatures and snow. Three of my least favorite things! I believe California remains as beautiful in December as it does throughout the year. I wonder if a line from one of my favorite carols, “O Holy Night,” was possibly written after the poet Adolphe Adam visited the blue-skied state of California?! “As yonder breaks a new and glorious morn,” because that is not exactly how we would describe a morn here on a frigid December day!
This time of year my family and I, like many of you, will reflect on the story of Christ’s birth. “O holy night, the stars are brightly shining, it is the night of our dear Saviour’s birth.” We hope to be found faithful, with a servant’s heart and a humble spirit. This is the time of year where the needs of many seem to be magnified. In Orange County alone, there are 3,000 children with a great need. From what I have been told, each of you are a member of a beautiful body of believers in a church known both locally and globally for its service to the people. “A thrill of hope the weary world rejoices.” I wonder in your preparation of the most wonderful time if you would think of the foster children in your area? As unique as each of you, so are the needs of these children and your ability to fill them. Your prayers, time, finances, opening of your homes and hearts can be life changing in ways yet seen. “Till He appeared and the soul felt its worth.”
I was asked by my dear friend Ana Martinez to share with you so please do not hold it against her if you were less than impressed with this letter! This time of year, I cling to Matthew 1:23...and they will call him Immanuel (which means God with us). God is with us! Every single one of us, can you imagine? HE is with US!! And if He is with us, we need others, especially children who have not known or even witnessed kindness, goodness, love, joy, patience, you know the list, that He is with them too. I hope this season as we join together in the celebration of our Messiah’s birth that there will be children added to the chorus of rejoicing voices. “O hear the angels’ voices, O night divine, Ooh night when Christ was born.”
Merry Christmas! Brooke Wilkinson

Join us for our biggest party of the year and share the joy and love of Jesus with our Foster Community!

Each year, Mariners hosts the Foster Family Christmas Party. We partner with Orange County Social Services, and invite over 1,200 foster youth, their families and caregivers for an afternoon filled with a lot of fun, laughter, smiles, crafts, games, good food and blessings all around. Each child receives a wrapped gift to take home and open on Christmas morning.
