First Traffic Box Installation: Unveiling September 5th

The first of my two traffic box installations will be installed in August and unveiled on September 5th. The 9 artists in this round will be next to their boxes for this First Thursday celebration.

I hope you can stop by to see my traffic box and to say hello. I will be on 14th Street near Grove Street, next to the Linen Building in Boise, Idaho.

the place to see textile art in August is Lowell, MA

The Lowell Quilt Festival 2013 takes place August 8 - 10 and is a citywide celebration. Museums and galleries throughout Lowell offer superb exhibits of quilts, textiles and fiber-related crafts. All partner sites are accessible by riding the FREE hop-on/hop-off shuttle bus.

The night you don't want to miss is gallery night, August 9th when galleries and museums are open free from 5-8pm. The two most exciting art quilt shows to see are these:

My piece, Alinea #2, will be on exhibit in this show juried by Bobbie Sullivan and Nancy Crasco! If you can't make it during this big weekend, notice the show is up until Sept 14th.

a different perspective

Until now all the works in my leaves series have all been vertical. I decided to change things up this time around and do a horizontal composition. I almost cannot call these design elements leaves anymore. A few fans have offered their interpretations of these images when they see this piece but I'll let you decide for yourself.

on my book pile this month

The Ten Year Nap     The Girls' Guide to Hunting and Fishing
I took both of these books on my recent river trip and did not get much reading in this time around. Good conversation and lots of time in the water distracted me from books.

1. The Ten-Year Nap - by Meg Wolitzer
I went to find The Interestings by this same author and instead discovered this gem. It is about educated women choosing not to work and has some hilarious moments in what I have read so far.
2. The Girls' Guide to Hunting and Fishing - by Melissa Bank
I haven't begun this one yet. This author has a new book coming out, The Wonder Spot, which I may also check out.
