Volunteer Opportunities with new Ballard Urban Rest Stop

The Ballard Urban Rest Stop will be open to patrons starting Monday, October 12! This is the Low Income Housing Institute's third Urban Rest Stop, providing homeless residents of Ballard with free showers, laundry, and other hygiene services, plus referrals to housing and services. Volunteers are welcomed.


350 Seattle 'Power through Paris' Workshop - October 10

Help build the momentum locally to stop the climate change crisis. And globally, we can carry this momentum to the gathering of governments at the December Paris climate change talks and beyond. Learn more Saturday, October 10 at 10 a.m.


Seattle Tilth: Put Your Garden to Bed - October 10

Prepare your garden for next year by improving your soil over the winter. We will discuss key components of the final harvest, how to test your soil, what cover crops to plant and different techniques for mulching. Saturday, October 10 from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m.

It’s back to school time so join us at the University of Washington in October to celebrate the Husky’s sustainability efforts and programs! Tuesday, October 13 from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m.


Food Justice in Focus - October 16-17

The process from farm to table is complex and many people are asking questions about food fairness and sustainability. Join Columbia Legal Services & the Social Justice Film Festival for films, exhibits and community discussion around food justice.


Ballard Urban Design and Transportation Open House - October 21

Learn what we heard from the community and share your comments on draft transportation priorities, including high capacity transit and urban design recommendations. Wednesday, October 21 at 6:00 p.m. 


21 Acres Class: Worm Bin 101 - October 24

Worm bins are a great way to compost for people who can’t have or don’t want a regular compost. They are versatile enough to be used indoors or outside, can be large or small scale, and can be used year round. Learn more Saturday, October 24 at 9:30 a.m.
