First festival planning meeting – July 15

Our 12th Annual Festival may turn out to be the biggest yet! Come to our first planning meeting on Wednesday, July 15 at 7 p.m. at Stoup Brewing and help us bring it all together. All ideas are welcome!


Ballard Tool Library Meeting - July 16

People have been sharing lots of great ideas at our monthly meetings! Our top priority in July is to find a location for the Ballard Tool Library. We’ll also be finalizing our Vision and Mission Statement. Join us! Thursday, July 16 at 5:30 p.m. at Peddler Brewing Company.


7th Annual Edible Garden Tour - Thank you!

The 7th Annual Edible Garden Tour was bigger than ever! Two hundred people donned hats and sunscreen to visit more than twenty gardens on a brilliant sunny day. We thank our community sponsors -- Greenwood Hardware, Cascade Compost, Ballard ReUse and Ballard Market -- for making this possible, as well as all the gardeners who participated!


Knitters for the Homeless now knitting in a new location!

Sustainable Ballard Knitters for the Homeless continues to meet every month -- now in a new location at Bauhaus Coffee. Come join us the second Friday of each month. Knitting instruction provided! Donated yarn welcome!


Other Community Events

Call for volunteers: Ballard Share and Play

What is Share and Play? It’s a lot like The Little Free Libraries, but for families to give or take gently used or unused toys, clothing, books and baby/kid gear. Share and Play promotes reuse, recycling and recreating while strengthening our community through sharing. We need volunteers to set up and maintain collection bins and help plan a grand opening event.


Sustainable Seattle + Seattle Greendrinks Summer Bash – July 14

Sustainable Seattle’s 2nd Annual Summer Bash is set for Tuesday, July 14 at the Seattle Yacht Club on Elliott Bay. The turnout last year was amazing, more than 250 people, and the same or even more is expected this year. Enjoy oysters from Taylor Shellfish, beer from Fremont Brewing and Sierra Nevada, and more! Only $5 at the door!


City Fruit: Transparent Apple Cooking Class – July 18

Learn how to make apple butter, apple chips and sauce using transparent apples in City Fruit's first cooking and preservation class of the summer. Transparent apples are a unique, early season apple with a sharp, tart taste. Participants will take home some of all three products. Saturday, July 18 at 10 a.m.


Groundswell NW Beer Tasting – July 23

Taste great beer and help NW Seattle parks! Join Groundswell at Reuben’s Brews in Ballard for a fundraising beer tasting. $1 for each pint purchased goes to Groundswell NW to benefit parks in Ballard and NW Seattle. Come rub elbows with the Groundswell NW Board and talk about open space issues.


NW SolarFest 2015 – July 25

We want a planet where people and nature can flourish together. NW SolarFest offers simple, easy and money-saving ideas to live a greener life, while doing something positive for the environment. Saturday, July 25, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Shoreline Community College.


City Fruit: Summer Pruning and Fruit Tree Care Workshop - July 25

Summer is the best time to prepare for the fall harvest. Come learn what you can do to prune your fruit trees for better airflow and a better harvest this season. After a lecture and demonstration, get some hands-on experience to gain confidence to tackle the trees in your own backyard. Saturday, July 25 at 10  a.m.


9th Annual Strengthening Local Economies Everywhere Dinner – August 1

Support your local economy and be part of the vibrant food justice community by buying your tickets to the annual SLEE dinner today! Saturday, August 1 from 5 - 9 p.m.


Seattle Tilth: Basic Canning 101 – August 1

Learn everything you need to know to safely can fresh food at home. You’ll leave with the skills and hands-on experience to use water bath canning for jams, tomatoes, chutneys, quick pickles and more. Saturday, August 1 at 10 a.m.
