Meaningful Movies: Sustainable Ballard - "Just Eat It" - Jan. 31
After catching a glimpse of the billions of dollars of good food that is wasted each year, filmmakers and food lovers Jen and Grant quit grocery shopping and survived only on foods that would otherwise be thrown away. Their film, "Just Eat It," looks at our systemic obsession with expiration dates, perfect produce and portion sizes. Discussions will follow the screening. Sunday, Jan. 31 at 6 p.m.

Ballard Knitters for the Homeless - changes for the new year!
A new year, a new day, a new place — Ballard Knitters for the Homeless is making a few changes! Now meeting on the second Tuesday of each month at Grumpy D’s, the knitters will continue in 2016 making warmies for people living on the streets, in shelters or tent encampments. Everyone is welcome, no matter the skill level.

Free Letters Home™ going strong
The Free Letters Home™ project successfully continued its mission in Ballard in 2015, serving 89 individuals at Nyer Urness House and The Bridge Center with 321 cards/postcards and 153 stamps. We are looking for ways to expand the program, especially new venues where we can reach more people. And as always, donations of cards and stamps are welcome!

Market gleaners gathered 13,918 pounds in 2015 - WOW!
Thanks to everyone on the Market Gleaning team, 13,918 pounds of food were transported from the Ballard Farmers Market to the Ballard Food Bank in 2015! It is great to know that we were able to keep this food from going to waste. Contact us if you're interested in volunteering with the Gleaning team on Sunday afternoons this year.

Threadcycle - keep unwearable clothing out of the landfill!
King County and Seattle Public Utilities have teamed with used clothing collectors to keep damaged clothes and linens out of the landfill! The Threadcycle campaign encourages people to donate all clothes, shoes, and linens -- not just "gently used" -- for reuse or recycling.
