Bringing in Ballard Friday Night Social: Celebrate Harvest! - Nov. 18

"Iron Chef" meets "Chopped" as guest chef Bruce Naftaly matches wits and hot plates with teams of volunteers from St. Luke’s Edible Hope program — the folks who’ve been making breakfasts for hundreds of people, five days a week, for decades — and the Ballard Food Bank, using produce from urban gardens. Meaningful Movies : Sustainable Ballard presents "No Impact Man" - Nov. 20

What does it really take to live eco-effectively? Come watch the sensational, funny and consciousness-raising story of how one man and his family attempted to make zero impact on the environment for one year -- while living in the heart of Manhattan. Sunday, Nov. 20 at 5:30 p.m. at Royal Drummer Cafe

Ballard Gives Black Friday - thank you, Swansons!

Many Ballard businesses are promoting Ballard Gives Black Friday on the day after Thanksgiving and through the weekend. No “doorbusters” at 6:00 a.m. Instead it's a more socially conscious effort, with participating businesses donating a portion of their sales to a local non-profit. This year, Sustainable Ballard will be sponsored by Swansons Nursery!


Please welcome the new Project Lead for the Ballard Tool Library

We're excited to welcome Travis Berton to the Sustainable Ballard team! He recently moved to Ballard from Mill Creek and is taking on the Project Lead role for the Ballard Tool Library. He says, "I look forward to bringing my passion for the environment and helping create a stronger sense of community to Sustainable Ballard."

All are invited to our annual Holiday Party and Barter Fair - Dec. 11

Sustainable Ballard's annual holiday barter and celebration brings together the community, encourages creativity and sharing, and offers a relaxing and enjoyable alternative to the more commercial holiday gift buying experience. There will be food, drinks and music! Sunday, Dec. 11 from 4 to 7 p.m.  


Ballard Sunday Dinners - help needed in holiday months

Ballard Sunday Dinners was created to offer weekly hot meals with dignity to our homeless neighbors. Volunteer positions are open in November and December. We’re headed into a busy season, and we hope you’ll spare an afternoon to help feed our hungry neighbors.

November waste reduction tips

The holidays seem to make the coldest months of the year also the warmest. Gathering with friends and family brightens our spirits, but it can also increase our garbage waste-line. Follow these tips at home to enhance the spirit of Thanksgiving without the waste.

Swansons Ladies Night Out to benefit Teen Feed - Nov. 18

Join us for this 21-and-over event to benefit local nonprofit, Teen Feed! Help us raise money to keep homeless youth safe, warm and fed this holiday season while enjoying complimentary wine, appetizer and dessert bites, live music and more. Plus, show your program to the cashiers to receive 10% off your total purchase! Friday, Nov. 18 from 6 to 9 p.m.


U.W. Botanic Gardens class: Help Native Pollinators with Pollinator Pathways - Nov. 21

This class will focus on corridors of plants that help support pollinator populations and what native plants you can grow to contribute to those pathways. Monday, Nov. 21 at 6:30 p.m.


Tuesdays @ 21: A Greener Holiday - Nov. 22

Rethink the tradition of your holiday Christmas tree! Learn about the benefits of a Living Christmas Tree and come with a list of your own greener holiday ideas to share. Tuesday, Nov. 22 at 6:30 p.m.


Join the Turkey Trot for Ballard Food Bank - Nov. 24

The Seattle Turkey Trot is a 5K jog, walk or run on the morning of Thanksgiving Day. This is the 10th year of the scenic run, which starts in the Sunset Hill neighborhood near Ballard and finishes at Golden Gardens Park. Proceeds support the Ballard Food Bank. Thursday, Nov. 24 at 9 a.m.


Talk: Trees as Solutions - Nov. 29

People speak of inventing technology that can solve climate change. We don’t need to invent it — it’s called a tree. We each need to plant 150 trees to help bring the world carbon parts per million level closer to 350 ppm. Come and learn about real steps we can take together to protect, restore and grow Washington’s wonderful forests. Tuesday, Nov. 29 at 7 p.m.
