Pitch-side defibrillators save lives

In the news recently was Fabrice Muamba, the young footballer that suffered a heart-attack during a game at Tottenham Hotspur Football Club.

The fact that new regulations insist on clubs having an on-site defibrillators doubtlessly improved Fabrice's chance of surviving, and meant that he could have pitch-side treatment administered immediately after the attack.

The Resuscitation Council has research that says in the UK approximately 30,000 people sustain cardiac arrest outside hospital, and are treated by emergency medical services (EMS) each year. Download the Resuscitation Council's article on The Use of Automated External Defibrillators here.

If you have any experience or views on the use of defibrillators that you would like to share with our subscribers, please get in touch.

NEW: First Response First Aid section

We've asked if people would like a first aid section on our website and it's very clear that they do. Therefore, we have started building an A-Z series of articles which address common symptoms and fist aid treatments. We've kicked off with the As and Bs:
  • Amputation
  • Anaphylaxis
  • Angina
  • Asthma
  • Bleeding
  • Body Temperature
  • Burns
Over the coming months we will be adding to this section giving you a handy and comprehensive guide. Once complete, we will be offering our subscribers a download of all articles which will prove a useful addition to your own suite of training tools.
