Falling Down is just an opportunity to get upUsing our brain to identify how well it is working is not the best way to measure our mental health. I once thought I was thinking so clearly while in the grip of addiction and no one could tell me otherwise.

I have since spoken to many people who believe they "KNOW without a doubt!" that they are thinking clearly. Then, years later, they recognize how muddied their thinking was (if they make it that far)

It breaks my heart when I speak to people who plant their flag of identity in the ground where they are standing. Life couldn't be more direct in its reminding us we won't be here long. Still, we get comfortable with who we are as we are. That creates resistance and a whole lot of pain in our life. We do that because we are under the influence of others and we want to be accepted and understood.

If you are looking to measure your ability to think clearly, or your mental health in general, do it in hindsight. You can never really know if you are thinking clearly at this moment. Hunger can get in the way of your ability to think clearly so to default to "Of course, I am thinking clearly!" is faulty at best. If you can look back at yesterday and identify moments you were not thinking clearly and recognize how you might alter the way you respond in the future, then you are, at the very least, on the right track.

If you are interested in learning about how you can think more clearly tomorrow, then you are ready to begin a journey to recover yourself. Respond to this email and let's set up a time to talk further.
