Keeping Montclair Residents Informed

Virtual Town Hall
Confronting Hate in Our Communities
Dear Friends,

We have been on a slow, but steady climb toward Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.’s mountain top.  While we have made much progress in the pursuit of justice and equality, we have a long way to go.  We must confront history, but also rise to this moment in history.  Hate lurks in the shadows everywhere, including here in Montclair.

That is why I hope you will join me for a virtual town hall on confronting hate in our communities.  Our conversation will seek to shine a light on white supremacy and hate groups, the threats they pose and what we can to fight back and build more tolerant communities.

Joining me will be Anti-Defamation League Regional Director, Scott Richman, Essex County Commissioner Brendan W. Gill, Dr. Denalerie Johnson-Faniel of the Civil Rights Division of the NJ Office of the Attorney General, Assistant Attorney General Bryn Whittle, Chief of Detectives Weldon Powell of the Division of Criminal Justice, Ehtasham Chaudhry of the NJ Office of Homeland Security and Preparedness and Lt. Tyrone Williams of the Montclair Police Department.

The Virtual Town Hall will take place on March 4th at 7 p.m.

The Montclair ideal means that we look out for our neighbors.  Our diversity is a significant part of what makes our community so rich.  Let’s work together to confront hate and build understanding.
