what's new

Natel has released its Sixth update video, highlighting the Monroe Hydro Project, and Natel’s final work prior to shipping the SLH100 for installation in the Monroe project.

01 Project Focus

Monroe + Apple announcement for Earth Day
In recognition of Earth Day, Natel was honored to announce partnering with Apple on the Monroe Hydro Project in Central Oregon.
Monroe project civil works nearing completion
March and April saw major progress on completing the civil works for the Monroe Hydro Project. As of the end of April, all of the major civil works were complete, including the intake, penstock and draft tube.
Monroe canal water on
The construction team hit a major milestone on April 7, completing all of the civil works that touch the canal ahead of the start of irrigation season. The plant civil works passed the initial test of water tightness with flying colors - at the left is a photo of the intake slide gate from inside the penstock after water on.
Mayo Mill update
The Mayo Mill project in Maine continues to advance through the necessary development stages. The developer Arnold Development, Natel Energy and the subcontractors have been working on site tours, engineering planning and construction coordination.

02 Product Development

SLH100 assembly complete

All major systems of the SLH100 unit to be installed at the Monroe Hydro Project were integrated together over the last 2 months into the SLH100 housing.  These systems include the inlet guide vane, the upper and lower flow guide shrouds, hydraulic system routing, and all sensors.
High speed cassette spinning tests completed
After integration of all the SLH100 modules, the cassette was spun at high speed inside and outside of the housing.  Spinning tests utilize all parts of the SLH100 from the control system to electrical, hydraulic, and mechanical systems.  This successful spin test helps ensure all systems will operate properly when the turbine begins operation.

All guide vane 1 foils received and tested

The SLH100’s 4 composite guide vanes redirect flow into the moving blades and are integral to the hydroEngine’s™ efficiency.  Design and supply chain development of the guide vanes proceeded over the last year, and in April this process concluded when the final production guide vanes were fatigue tested under full operational loads.
Guide vane module installed and tested
The inlet guide vane module is a hydraulic system which rotates the guide vanes to achieve optimal hydraulic efficiency as flow rate changes.  In April, this system was fully assembled and run through all operation scenarios by the SLH100 control system.

Shrouds complete

The upper and lower shrouds guide flow smoothly around the top and bottom of the cassette as it sits in the housing.  Last month the shrouds were fully assembled and welded together to form one continuous flow surface.

04 Business development

Visit from Prime Minister of Bhutan

The Prime Minister of Bhutan, Tshering Tobgay, visited Natel in March as part of a tour of cutting-edge technology companies in the Bay Area. The Prime Minister was very interested in learning about the sustainable, utility-scale hydropower development potential of EcoSmartHydro™. Natel will work with the Bhutanese government to assess the potential for EcoSmartHydo™ in the country. The Prime Minister was accompanied by staff and representatives of the World Wildlife Fund, which is engaged in ecological preservation efforts in Bhutan.
Wireless Energy visits
Monroe drop site
Nelson Stevens of Wireless Energy, Natel’s partner in Chile, visited the Monroe Drop project site in March to preview what Wireless’s canal projects will look like in Chile.  Wireless congratulated  Natel on the progress with the Monroe Drop project with a gift of Garage Wine , which comes from the same regions of Chile where hydroEngines™ will be installed in the coming years.
