The University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point hosted its winter commencement ceremony on Dec. 19 as Chancellor Bernie Patterson conferred degrees to 704 graduates, including 220 students from the College of Professional Studies, at the ceremony in the Health Enhancement Center.

ROTC program selected top in 3rd Brigade

ROTCCompeting against 42 programs stretching from Northern Michigan to Southern Missouri, the Northwoods Battalion was awarded the 2015 Overall Top Program by the 3rd Army ROTC Brigade on Nov. 19. It is the first time in history that the Nortwoods Battalion, which is comprised of the Army ROTC programs from UW-Stout, UW-Eau Claire, UW-River Falls and UW-Stevens Point, won the award. Cadets chosen for active duty

ROTCFive senior cadets from the UW-Stevens Point ROTC program were chosen from a national pool to serve as new active duty lieutenants: Isaac Bandfield, Alec Foster, Nicholas Lemke, Christopher Salm and Bryton Vanderloop. They will begin their service following their May 2016 graduation. Read More

Registration Open for Reeder's Ruck - April 30

Reeder's RuckThe Ranger Club and the ROTC program at UW-Stevens Point will host the second annual Reeder's Ruck on April 30. Warrior Night A “Dining In” is a military ceremony for members of a unit that includes a dinner, drinking and other events to build unit cohesion. The UW-Stevens Point Dining In consists of a dinner, humorous class videos, a Grog bowl (nonalcoholic), and competitive games. View Photos

Hello Pointers!

I have said many times that I would stack our program against any other program in the country. I admit that, for some time I thought that may be hubris. However, being named the top program in Cadet Command’s 3rd Brigade confirms my suspicions!

Also, of our eight senior cadets, all five who sought active duty were selected. Of the other three who sought service in the Wisconsin Army Guard, Ms. Mary Workman was the Guard’s top ranked cadet.
 
Now to stay on top! This year we are working hard to bring in alumni who are currently serving on active duty or in the Guard and Army Reserve. In addition to Rear Admiral Steven Day’s (U.S. Coast Guard) visit with our cadets, we have also had visits by phone from two alumni.
 
Captain William Barnett '07 spent nearly two hours with the senior cadets by phone from his duty station at Fort Campbell, Kentucky. He provided tremendous insights on current world events based on his experiences working with and around the Army’s Special Forces.  
 
We also spent time by phone with Captain Scott Schreiber '09 who is currently commanding an Engineer company at Fort Stewart, Georgia. And we had in-person visits from Captain Mark Sier '07 and the Wisconsin Army National Guard’s Chief of Staff Colonel John Schroeder. 
 
Bringing these leaders in provides our cadets with some great mentoring and a different view of the Army than what can be seen from our campus. We have our sights set on a few more such visits during the spring semester. I won’t name names, but one alum is currently the Deputy Army Attaché at the U.S. Embassy in Moscow.
 
As we head into spring, I ask you to get ready for the Second Annual Reeder’s Ruck March on April 30, 2016! We are looking for 200 or more of our good friends to strap on their rucks in honor of Cadet Alexander Reeder and the life he led.
