Marty's Message

Celebrating a successful college experience is most obvious on commencement day, which for December graduates happened this past weekend. What those of us on campus realize that others may not, is that the celebrations actually start much earlier in the week.
The week involves several formal ceremonies such as Chancellor’s Leadership Awards, Army ROTC Commissioning, Albertson Medallion Award banquet, campus leadership awards and Phi Kappa Phi inductions.
There are also dozens of culminating experiences departments hold for graduating students such as the senior portfolio exhibit put on by our Division of Interior Architecture, business administration or health promotion/wellness internship presentations, and research presentations by students in any one of our health fields. Our School of Education also holds Student Teacher Day where preservice teachers return to campus to share the experiences they had out in the schools.
Faculty and staff say tearful goodbyes at events to honor our international student graduates, Noel Compass Scholars, and in many of our department offices where it is the last day at work for graduating student employees.
As a dean, I get invited to many of these events and you can imagine how busy this week must be. What I also want you to know is how inspiring and rewarding it is, too.
Marty Loy,
