2015 Commencement Coverage

The University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point hosted its spring commencement ceremony on May 16 as Chancellor Bernie Patterson conferred degrees to 1,412 graduates in the ceremonies in the Health Enhancement Center.

Chancellor's Leadership and Albertson Award Winners

Awards Cadets Kris Adams and Steve Fosheim received the UW-Stevens Point Chancellor's Leadership Award! They are among a select group of graduating seniors who throughout their careers at UW-Stevens Point have contributed significant leadership, demonstrated campus and/or community service and shown a commitment to personal growth.

Reeder's Ruck remembers cadet

The Ranger Club and the UW-Stevens Point ROTC program hosted the inaugural eight-mile Reeder's Ruck Saturday, April 18 to raise funds in support of the Alex Reeder Memorial Scholarship Endowment. Hello Pointers!

This spring our program commissioned three lieutenants into the United States Army, and we’ll commission a fourth lieutenant later this summer.

Our cadet Battalion Commander Mr. Steven Fosheim was one of the top cadets in the country. He was selected by our higher headquarters to represent the region at the United States Military Academy’s Mission Command Conference. He’ll enter active duty later this fall as an Infantry officer.

Mr. David Teclaw will also enter active duty later this year and attend the Army’s Field Artillery Officer Basic Course at Fort Sill, Oklahoma. Mr. Kristen Adams will leave for the Engineer Officer Basic Course at Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri, next month. He, too, will serve on active duty as an engineer officer. Ms. Carly Falk will commission into the Wisconsin Army National Guard later this summer after completing an internship required by her major. She will serve as a transportation corps officer.

The highlight of our training year for these young leaders was the planning and execution of the Inaugural Reeder’s Ruck March, in honor of their late classmate Alexander Reeder. More than 100 people came out for the event on April 18 to raise funds for the scholarship named for Mr. Reeder. Participants trekked an eight-mile course while carrying a backpack weighing at least 35 pounds. The event raised more than $2,200 for the scholarship fund.

Next year’s Reeder's Ruck March is already scheduled for April 30 at 10 a.m. in downtown Stevens Point. For more details, see our Facebook page at facebook.com/reedersruck.
