Marty's Message

It was a pleasure (and I must say, some relief) to re-appoint four of our current department chairs to new terms this spring. I say relief because they also serve as associate deans of the college, and as dean, I rely on them for everything. They are asked to lead productive and cohesive departments, create and maintain strong curriculum, be good stewards of department budgets, and recruit and manage outstanding faculty and staff. It is the chair who is called on for everything from resolving student issues to entertaining alumni and donors.

CPS department chairs play such critical leadership roles. They are in a pivotal position to serve as primary agents of change, influencing every aspect of our teaching, research, and service missions. We can all breathe a sigh of relief that Gary, Sue, Pat, and Rory have accepted to continue their great work as department chairs.
