Sodwana Bay

Sandy beaches, diving & snorkeling

endless pristine beaches
Sodwana is one of South Africa’s top diving and holiday destinations, situated on the east coast in the iSimangaliso Wetland Park, a UNESCO World Heritage site. Whether you are a deep sea fisher, nature lover, bird watcher, photographer but especially a diver: an unexpected, varied experience awaits you in this piece of unspoilt coastal forest.
Here you will find Africa’s southern-most coral reef, even further south than Australia’s Great Barrier Reef. The fact that these coral reefs cannot survive in temperatures below 21°C, indicates the pleasant warm water temperatures of the Indian Ocean. Experienced divers rate the underwater experience here as better than the Seychelles, Mauritius or the Comoros.
Countless species of colourful nudibranches, more than a thousand differenced species of tropical fish and the great whaleshark (seasonal) can be seen here – boredom will not feature!!
For none-divers there is also much to do. Take a relaxed walk along the golden beach, sunbathe or take a swim in the Indian Ocean. The reefs are not reserved for the divers alone, but offer excellent snorkelling opportunities.
