Pushing past fear

Poet Erin Hansen wrote these words, which have been used to create countless inspirational visuals on the Internet:

What if I fail? Oh, but my darling, what if you fly?
Those 12 words have spoken to people around the world for a reason. Those words touch on something we all deal with: fear of failing.
In our society, fear of failure is a thing. It’s a big thing!
So few of us want to test and try new things, or change what we’re doing, because we’re afraid of failure.
Fear gets in the way of life and business
We’re afraid of people seeing that we are not perfect. We’re afraid of trying to learn something new. We’re afraid of going to new places and meeting new people. We’re afraid of people knowing that we are not a mirror image of all things perfect as seen on our friend’s Facebook timelines, in advertising campaigns, on television and so on.
It’s time to stop that way of thinking!

From Patti: Three books to read this year.
  • Work the Pond!: This was the first business book I read when I started PR Consulting in 2009. It set me on a wonderful path toward networking and relationship-building.
  • Start with Why: Three words: What, how and why. This book taught me a marketing strategy for promoting products and services with a focus on “why” and not “what” or “how.”
  • The Go-Giver: “Give and you shall receive.” This light, easy read helped me further dial in on the concept of being open to meeting and connecting with all types of people, knowing that everyone has something to give if you can connect with them in honest, real ways.
Three books? Yeah, right. There are more great books than that. Take a look at a few more recommendations from Patti right here.

How to use LinkedIn to market yourself or your business

How much attention do you pay to your LinkedIn profile?

Probably less than you should.

Often described as “Facebook for professionals,” the platform’s utility is obvious: Ninety-four percent of job recruiters turn to LinkedIn in their hunts for candidates.

And even if you’re not looking for work, LinkedIn is a haven for professional development and networking. It’s also a place where potential customers seek out advice from others who’ve used your company’s products or services.

Here's how to get started on LinkedIn.
Connect with PRC on these social networking sites for tips & resources throughout the month:

What PRC has been working on:

Supporting the community. Patti (on the right) got to be in a video with her friend, Stacee, who was named Professional Woman of the Year this month. At PRC, we're firm believers that the community is stronger when businesses support each other. Congrats, Stacee!

Trying out the gadgets. Speaking of supporting the community... there are some GREAT museums in Bellingham. Matthew had fun giving himself random shocks at PRC client SPARK during a recent tour. Did you know they're accepting new volunteers? There's an info meeting set for Jan. 26. Check their Facebook for more.
