Join us! Walk, talk and make connections

Summer trail treks followed by happy hour at a local venue are a great way for you to connect and network with other local business pros. You can share what you do and learn about the work of others while also supporting a local small business! When we connect, we can generate referrals and help build a stronger economy in Whatcom County. Cool, right?

The trek — from Barkley Village to the Alabama Hill bridge overlook and back — is roughly 2.5 miles, and the route is relatively flat. Wear casual, comfy clothes and shoes; workout wear is welcome and encouraged. We’ll hang out at the venue after the walk for no-host sips and snacks.

Our next meetup is July 26 at The Blue Abode Bar in Barkley Village. Let us know you’re coming by sending a quick email to Hope to see you there!

What not to do with Facebook contests

Back in the day, Facebook contests were a minefield so fraught with danger that many companies — especially small, family-run businesses — didn’t even bother. Thankfully, today’s rules are much simpler. Companies can actually run contests on Facebook the simple way, without awkward integrated apps.

Regarding the list of don’ts, the most important thing to remember is that you can’t ask people to involve others or to share anything on their personal timelines. For example, you can’t write:

  • “Share on your timeline to enter.”
  • “Share on your friend’s timeline to get additional entries.”
  • “Tag your friends in this post to enter.”

Featured business: As the decades go by, CHCC continues to innovate

Christian Health Care Center in Lynden has been around for decades — since 1956, in fact — and these many years later has not ceased to innovate. CHCC is always pushing to make things better for residents, patients, staff and community members.

A scroll through some of the news from CHCC over the past year is evidence of that customer- and community-service mindset. Consider some of these important recent happenings at the Lynden healthcare center:

  • reducing antibiotic usage;
  • using music to reach the elderly;
  • helping people transition from hospital to home;
  • training NACs in one of the state's best programs; and
  • inviting volunteers to better the lives of CHCC residents.

What PRC has been working on:

Brainstorming. Ideas! We love them. Lately, we've been hard at work brainstorming ideas for local businesses to capitalize on their strengths in the busy and booming Whatcom County marketplace. Reach out to PRC if you need a brain to bounce ideas off of, or if you need help coming up with the perfect business marketing plan.

Graduating. Matthew is finally done with grad school and is now pondering life after books, assignments, papers and presentations. He's excited to have finished school but even more excited to make his way back to the States so he can meet up with some PRC clients — in person!
