Celebrating National Dental Hygiene Month

OHA salutes dental hygienists around the country in October for National Dental Hygiene Month!  Dental Hygienists are key allies in community service, and their efforts are crucial in the fight against dental caries, particularly in our most vulnerable populations. Find out about this year's theme and how you can support both OHA and hygienists nationwide.

Calling All Dentists & Hygienists for the Wisdom Tooth Project

Work has begun on the Wisdom Tooth Project® portal, including developing content that will inform older adults and their caretakers on the importance of oral health and how to maintain a healthy smile. OHA currently has a memorandum of understanding with the American Dental Hygienists' Association and the Special Care Dentistry Association for their members to be content experts for the portal. If you are a dentist or hygienist and would like to be a content expert for the portal, please visit the current Wisdom Tooth Projectt webpage to find out more about the program and email Amanda Ciatti for more details.

Tackling Oral Health Issues on Capitol Hill

In honor of the Fall for Smiles® campaign, OHA spent time on Capitol Hill last month bringing attention to the importance of oral health in this country. While in D.C., OHA board and staff members met with 31 Senators and Representatives and delivered nearly 40 information packets to key legislators. Rep. Mike Quigley (D-IL) made a floor statement about the importance of funding oral health care measures in the Affordable Care Act and how poor dental care impacts Americans of all ages. We encourage everyone to contact their representatives to remind them of the importance of oral health.

Innovating with 3M ESPE

OHA visited 3M ESPE early this month to plan contiuned support of OHA programs. John Stefanick, Director of Industry and Professional Relations, provided OHA’s Beth Truett and Melissa Hoebbel a personal tour of the Innovation Center. "3M ESPE is proud to support Oral Health America's mission of improving oral health for Americans across the entire life cycle from children to older adults," said Stefanick. "The synergies between our two organizations provide a unique opportunity to expand our philanthropic initiatives to a greater audience, thereby realizing a larger impact in the overall health of all Americans." Thank you, 3M ESPE, for your continued support of our work!

Giving to OHA Through United Way

If you participate in a United Way giving program through your office, did you know that you can designate the charity of your choice? Designating a charity means that your United Way giving will support the charity YOU most wish to benefit. As United Way giving programs roll out, we hope you will designate Oral Health America.
