Gies Awards Recognize OHA's Florida Partners

The Naples Children and Education Foundation (NCEF), nominated by Dean Terri Dolan (UFL School of Dentistry), received the 2012 William J. Gies Award. The award received on March 19 by NCEF is one of nine awards for Vision, Innovation and Achievement, and was presented in conjunction with the American Dental Education Association's annual meeting. CHS Healthcare, which supports NCEF,  is a Smiles Across America® grantee that runs an elementary school-based sealant program in Collier County. Wisdom Tooth Project Celebrates Older Americans Month

May is Older Americans Month, the focus of OHA’s Wisdom Tooth Project® which seeks to change the lives of our nation’s fastest growing age group. OHA Bids Farewell to a Dedicated Board Member

OHA recently said goodbye to DNTLworks president, Steve Knight, who completed 12 years as a member of our Board of Directors. In a profile in the February issue of Mentor, Steve said the following about his time with OHA: “My work as chairman of the Dental Trade Alliance Foundation and as a board member and past chairman of Oral Health America provides the opportunity to give back, and also to work closely with extremely talented industry leaders. It is one of the most rewarding aspects of my life, and the commitment is a small price for the benefits I receive for helping those in need.” Thank you, Steve, for your continued dedication to oral health and for all the work you did on behalf of OHA.

With april being Oral Cancer Awareness Month, and a new report from the Surgeon General highlighting the rising use of smokeless tobacco among teenagers, understanding the dangers of smokeless tobacco is as important as ever. Gies Award Winner

Dr. Anthony Volpe, Vice President of Clinical Dental Research and Scientific Affairs for the Colgate-Palmolive Company and a longtime OHA supporter, was awarded a Gies Award for Achievement, Public or Private Sector, at this year's American Dental Education Association Annual Meeting in March. Congratulations on this well-deserved honor!

The NSTEP Slogan Contest is Coming

The 2012 NSTEP® (National Spit Tobacco Education Program) Slogan Contest will launch May 1. Little League players will submit slogans about the dangers of smokeless tobacco for a chance to win a trip to the Little League World Series in August. Keep an eye on the NSTEP webpage for all the details.
