WSIB Information Regarding COVID-19

If you believe you contracted COVID-19 while at work, you may file a claim with WSIB. Claims received by the WSIB will need to be adjudicated on a case-by-case basis, taking into consideration the facts and circumstances.


For a COVID-19 claim to be allowed, evidence must show that the person’s risk of contracting the disease through their employment is greater than the risk to which the public at large is exposed and that work significantly contributed to the person’s illness.

To determine the work-relatedness of COVID-19 claims, the WSIB will look at details such as the person’s employment activities, their symptoms and whether they have a diagnosis of COVID-19.

WSIB does not provide coverage for people who are symptom-free even when quarantined, self-isolating or sent home on a precautionary basis.

Visit wsib.ca/upload to upload any claim-related forms, letters, or documentation if you have a claim number. 

As of March 16 the WSIB will not be processing any hard copy mail received until further notice.

Please fax your documents to 416-344-4684 or
1-888-313-7373 if you don’t have your claim number and save the fax report for your records.

If you were not receiving any wage-loss benefits at the time of the employer’s shut-down, you won’t receive any new wage-loss benefits. If you were receiving any other benefits at the time of the shut-down, such as health care benefits, those will continue.

If you are getting health care benefits from WSIB and unable to attend an appointment due to self-isolation or diagnosis with COVID-19, please cancel it directly with the health care provider and reschedule your appointment with the provider once you are considered clear to do so – in accordance with public health guidelines and/or the directions of your treating health care provider.

Ask your doctor to submit form 8 electronically, if your doctor is registered for electronic submission and get a copy of that for your records.
