Strike Support! Buy Bottles, not Cans!
120 United Steelworkers from beer can manufacturer, Crown Holdings, have been forced off the job for 17 months. Workers are fighting back against Crown Holding's demand for major concessions and the company's threat to let go of its unionized workers. USW has called for a boycott of beer sold in cans. Support the campaign by buying bottles! Learn more at takebacksnomore.ca

Support GoodLife Fitness Professionals in their union drive!

Earlier this year, Workers United publicly launched its GoodLife Fitness Professionals' Union Campaign in support of GoodLife Fitness workers looking to improve their working conditions. Many fitness instructors are forced to work for low wages, work unpaid time, are not covered by WSIB if they become injured and pay out of pocket expenses for equipment and training.

Visit our new campaign site at: fitnessprofessionalsunion.com to learn more about the campaign and how you can support GoodLife workers!

Members' Voices

Workers United members are not only leaders in their workplaces, but are also actively involved in improving their communities through volunteering, activism, or community organizing. Our members also come from diverse backgrounds and life experiences and can provide valuable insights on how their struggles connect with larger social justice issues and the labour movement. Workers United will begin profiling short pieces written by our members so that we can all share and learn from each other and highlight what our members do both on and off the job.

Check out the following two pieces written by our members:

Chiedza Pasipanodya
"Yes, #BlackLivesMatter"

Read her full piece here

Michelle Palmer
"What it means being a Black woman in Canada: A personal reflection"

Read her full piece here

We want to hear from you! If you're interested in writing a short piece, please contact Navjeet Sidhu at nsidhu@workersunitedunion.ca. Don't worry if you're not a great writer, we can help!

Workers United 2015 Scholarships

Each year, Workers United awards two scholarships worth $1,500 each to our members, their children, or grandchildren, to help pay for their post-secondary education.

We are now accepting submissions for 2015!

Full application instruction and online forms can be found here. Deadline to submit is July 15th, 2015!

Benetton: Pay Up for Rana Plaza Victims!

On April 2013, 1,134 garment workers lost their lives when the Rana Plaza factory building collapsed in Bangladesh. These workers died making clothing for many popular clothing brands including: Loblaws, Children's Place & Benetton. Until recently, Benetton was one of the few remaining companies that refused to contribute to a global fund that would be used to compensate victim's families. Thanks to a coordinated global effort, including a petition signed by over a million people and actions in front of Benetton stores around the world (including a leaflet action by Workers United in Toronto), Benetton has now agreed to contribute to the compensation fund.
