Announcing The Glen Ellyn Children’s Resource Center Scholarship Fund

GECRC is excited to announce its inaugural scholarship fund, aimed at supporting its mission to help GECRC students transition successfully from grades K-12 into adulthood.  $3000 will be awarded annually to a Glenbard West Senior who attended GECRC during their elementary school years and who has shown ongoing commitment to both academic excellence and community service.  Please consider helping to kick off this special program by donating to GECRC’s Scholarship Fund at https://www.gecrc.com/donate-today/.  Donations to the fund are also being accepted in honor of Joyce Hothan.
Community Spotlight:  String Theory Yarn Co.

Ten years ago String Theory Yarn Co. of Glen Ellyn was looking for a way to channel the goodwill of their customers to help the homeless situation in DuPage county. They considered knitting scarves to keep them warm in the winter, but ultimately decided that raising and donating money to local organizations would have a greater impact.  Since then, each year in December their customers make gorgeous boutique-worthy scarves for their Annual Scarf Market and all proceeds from the sales of the scarves are donated to a different local charity.  This year, GECRC was the lucky recipient and received an amazing $4,050 to support the academic and social enrichment of children in need in our community!  Thank you String Theory for your support and generosity!

Thank you to the following community members for their generous and on-going support.

HeArtfelt Create of Glen Ellyn once again donated a portion of their proceeds to GECRC, this time from their first annual Artisan Holiday Pop-Up in December, which offered amazing handcrafted gifts and home goods created by local artists!

The Kiwanis Club of Glen Ellyn in cooperation with the Glen Ellyn Food Pantry is helping to extend support beyond the classroom for the children of GECRC.  Starting this year, each Friday students receive a backpack containing nutritional snacks for the weekend, oftentimes along with a fun activity or book.  Our students couldn’t be happier!

A big thank you to Henry Stachowiak, a Glenbard West Senior, who worked hard to complete a project in December which provided each elementary school student in our after school program with their own personal set of supplies to use during tutoring!
Thanks to the work of the Glen Ellyn Lion’s Club we were able to treat over 100 families in our GECRC community to an amazing Thanksgiving feast that included 40 turkey legs prepared and donated by Rue restaurant in downtown Glen Ellyn!  Lion’s Club members also joined us to serve food and celebrate the season at this annual event.  We express our gratitude to the Glen Ellyn Lion’s Club and Rue!
Volunteer Spotlight:
Lindsey Haan and Christian Basso
Congratulations to Lindsey Haan for being Lincoln’s December volunteer of the month! Lindsey is a Junior at Glenbard West. She is truly dedicated to her student’s success and does an amazing job checking in with classroom coordinators to find out exactly how she can support all students’ needs! We are grateful to have a volunteer who is so invested in our students’ progress each and every day!

Congratulations to Churchill's volunteer of the month, Christian Basso! Christian is a Sophomore at Glenbard West. He volunteers three times a week with a group of three students. They feel very lucky to have him as their tutor, and so do we!

Preparation for GECRC's summer school program has begun!

Volunteers and Summer Interns Needed!  We are looking for both volunteers and 5 summer unpaid college interns to help provide students with academic enrichment and a fun-filled summer. Our summer interns gain invaluable experience while helping to plan and implement curriculum, field trips, and summer enrichment activities alongside classroom teachers.  Intern hours are 8am to 12pm.  Volunteers (ages 14 and up) are also needed to help implement our exciting schedule of academic and extracurricular activities.

Summer programming runs Tuesdays through Thursdays,  June 17 through August 1 (with no school the week of July 1).  If interested in either an intern or volunteer position, please contact Dana Wleklinski at 630-899-9919 or email dwleklinski@gecrc.com.
