Irish Heritage Festival: The sixth Dorchester Irish Heritage Festival will take place on Sun., Oct. 9, at the crossroads of Florian Hall (55 Hallet Street) and the McKean Post (4 Hilltop Street). The daylong festival includes family entertainment, and cultural activities, as well as food and vendor booths selling clothing, souvenirs, novelties, jewelry, and various other items. Boston Fire Department 34th Annual 10k Road Race: The Local 718 lOK Memorial Road Race was established to memorialize the brave members of the Boston Fire Department while raising money for several local charities, funding scholarships and also providing a great running event enjoyed by generations and supported by local establishments. Neponset River Pumpkin Float: Join a Neponset family tradition -- the 14th Annual Pumpkin Float at Pope John Paul II Park ! Bring your hollow carved pumpkin and join the floating parade of illuminated jack-a-lanterns down Davenport Creek to the Neponset River. Halloween costumes encouraged! the fun begins on Tuesday, October 20th at 6:00 PM (5:30 PM registration). Meet at the Hallet Street entrance. 
 
Mass Fallen Heroes Veterans Day Event: Join Mass Fallen Heroes this Veterans Day Friday, November 11 at 1:00 PM - 4:00 PM at the Massachusetts Fallen Heroes Memorial (85 Northern Avenue in the Seaport District). The #FreedomFriday event will help us remember and honor those Veterans that made the ultimate sacrifice in the Global War on Terrorism. Gold Star Families, distinguished guests and fellow Veterans will be in attendance, and they will have a wreath laying ceremony. 
 
Boston Tuition-Free Community College Plan: Boston Public Schools Superintendent Tommy Chang and Mayor Martin J. Walsh launch the application for the tuition-free community college plan, which provides a cost-effective entry point into higher education for Boston's young people. Visit
