Greetings Parker Community,
During this unprecedented time of uncertainty and disruption caused by events related to the COVID19 pandemic, it is important to remain connected with friends and family through social media and other safe communication methods.
In keeping with the recommendations and in some instances mandates from local, state, and national government, Parker University has transitioned to distance learning. Classes requiring live laboratory settings will be scheduled to take place once the disruption caused by this outbreak has been mitigated. Currently all Parker University clinics are closed.
For our May 2020 start, we are prepared to continue to teaching classes in a distance learning format if necessary. We also intend to offer a distance learning option for the entire trimester (for the incoming Tri 1 class).
Given that this pandemic occurred just four months after a tornado struck the Parker campus, Parker was prepared and experienced in disaster management. The Parker University faculty, staff, and students have responded to these unique events with courage and fortitude.
While I have turned to my faith during these trying times, I have also been revisiting some of the Parker Principles. Jim Parker’s words still speak to us today even though he left this world many years ago.
“We see things as we are, not necessarily as they are.”
If you are living a life of bitterness and fear, you will see the world as a bitter and scary place. If, however, you are living an abundant and love-filled life, you will see the world as being filled with abundance and love.
“Do not let the negative few overrule the positive many.”
There are always negative angry voices spewing destructive and hurtful words. Don’t allow yourself to be distracted by those negative few, instead surround yourself with those who have a positive outlook.
“I will anticipate the good – even during the bad.”
While the coronavirus drama is played out upon a global stage, we can see the sensational news stories which contribute to the anxiety prevalent in our society, but we also see acts of compassion and sacrifice. This is a time when our inner values will surface. Some people will become mean spirited and bitter, while others will show their inner beauty through acts of service and kind words.
I challenge you to rely on your virtues, not your vices during this historic time. Do good to others; speak with kindness. Lift up others when they are down.
Blessings and Stay Safe
William E. Morgan
