The Community Based Internships (CBI) Department is pleased to announce the start of our newest clinic abroad program in Kingston, Jamaica under the mentorship of Neil Gardner, DC, DACNB. Dr. Gardner, an extension faculty member of Parker University, is a 2009 Parker alumnus, recipient of the International Alumni of the Year award in 2012, Neurology Diplomate, former Jamaican Olympian, and is a team chiropractor for the Jamaican Olympic Team. Tri-10 interns will be treating general chiropractic patients along with athletes and will participate in various sporting events such as track meets and soccer tournaments. Additionally, Dr. Gardner has two radio shows, is very active in the community, and does frequent health talks in which the interns will participate. Contact the CBI Department located in the Research Institute building adjacent to the School of Massage Therapy for more information!

Walk to Cure Arthritis

The Walk to Cure Arthritis will be held at Globe Life Park in Arlington. Parker University and the Arthritis Foundation are again partnering for the Walk to Cure Arthritis. This historic partnership will benefit the university, the association, the profession, and most importantly, those who suffer from arthritis. Our participation in the Walk to Cure Arthritis is proof that the university supports this groundbreaking relationship. We hope to establish annual participation in the WTCA as an adjunct to the Parker Serves outreach to the DFW community. Also, this will be a great way for you to bring your tri together in an activity that will be fun and immensely rewarding. For information on this foundation or the event please visit the Walk to Cure Arthritis. For information on creating a student team, please contact Alicia Allbaugh in student affairs or Donna Wald in alumni relations.

Forces Sensing Table Technology

Parker University is pleased to announce the integration of the Force Sensing Technology Tables into the core technique curriculum labs. These tables represent the latest in precision technology and are an important pedagogical tool. Each device is capable of providing students with precise feedback on their technique long before they face the complexities of human patients.

As Dr. Eric Russel says, “The Force Sensing Table Technology provides crucial feedback to the student that allows them to learn how to appropriately modulate their adjustic thrusts. By using the table, students are able to get a more significant amount of feedback and practice than before. It is a great complement to teaching the core Parker techniques and will revolutionize their educational experience.”

Students will have access to the table during open lab sessions. Faculty are also using the table to collect research data, provide refresher training for our student interns, and hopefully develop continuing education classes using the table for our alumni and friends. Beyond their usefulness in the classroom, these tables also represent significant effort on the part of Parker University donors and supporters, and as the need for more tables grows so have efforts to improve fundraising on technology that will benefit every Parker student and alumnus. For more information please contact Donna Wald.
