 Staff Announcements

A message from Membership & Outreach Director, Shelby Elliott

At the beginning of this year, Pastor Sara randomly generated "star words" for staff that were interested in them. These words were intended to assist us in meditating on meaningful themes as we moved into the new year... and I got the word "discern."

To say that this year has lived up to the expectation of that word would be a gross understatement.  I won't belabor the point of how discernment has been a major theme of 2021 for me personally, but suffice it to say that I've been living in a state of simply doing "the next right thing" again and again. Today I'm writing to inform you that my next "next right thing" will take me out of the LUMC office. My last day working in our office will be on Thursday July 29th.

First, please know that I have every confidence in the staff that is in place currently, and I've been very pleased with our new staff configuration the last few months. They're some of the most capable, creative and compassionate people I've ever known, which makes it both harder and easier to step away at this moment.  We're incredibly fortunate at this church. I say "we" because as a member, this is my church, and I'll remain a part of the worshipping community for the foreseeable future. For the time being, I also plan to remain on for Sunday morning responsibilities, while working toward the goal of reviving a volunteer-driven communications & A/V team (shameless plug: click here to sign up for that!) I look forward to the newfound capacity I'll have to contribute to LUMC as a member of the church, and I refuse to say goodbye because I'm actually not going anywhere!

I truly believe that my presence as a member of LUMC's office staff these last four years was divinely orchestrated. Over and over again I heard the words from Esther 4 echoing in my head, "for such a time as this." Much like Esther, I was uniquely situated within this community to do the work of bringing about greater justice for the oppressed. Because of that opportunity, and the sincere love I've experienced here, my time on staff has been a gift that I would not trade for the world. Linworth is truly my family, and I thank you in advance for the continued love and support I know you'll show as I begin my new vocational adventure!

Until next Sunday,

A message from Director of Contemporary Worship Music, Nick Traverso

I first would like to thank each, and every one of you for providing me a place to call home for the last two years. Moving to Columbus without knowing very many people was a big challenge, but my time spent with the band, staff, and congregation of LUMC made that a much easier transition.
It is with a heavy heart that I share that my last Sunday with LUMC will be August 1st, 2021. An opportunity has presented itself to be a principal player in a new piano bar opening in Columbus this fall, and it’s a chance for me to have the music career I’ve always wanted since I first picked up a guitar as a child. I will be playing every Friday and Saturday night and the overall time commitment of this new opportunity has put me in a position to choose between that or continuing with LUMC. After weeks of prayer and consultation with family and friends, I just couldn't pass up the chance to play music in this exciting new setting.
I cannot express enough how much I appreciate everything everyone at LUMC has done for me and my family and I will miss my Sunday mornings with you all very much. Please keep in touch and if there’s anything I can ever do for you individually or for LUMC, please don’t hesitate to ask.
LUMC will always hold a special place in my heart.

 Save the Date!

Save September 16th, 2021 for the 30th anniversary celebration of New LIfe's breakfast ministry. Thank you for the support and gifts of time, talent, money, and clothing given to New Life over the years, your partnership is appreciated!

  VBS 2021

After a long year of COVID having to worship virtually and Zoom Sunday school it was amazing to be back together for Family VBS and LCC VBS. Approximately 170 campers at LCC experienced VBS in their groups while coming together for assembly time to sing, meet Beacon and Lighthouse Keeper Sunny and hear the Bible Story.  In the evening, 73 children along with parents and youth and adult leaders enjoyed five evenings of singing, Bible story, science, crafts, and games.
Here are a few of the God Sightings from VBS 2021

The girls kept asking if it was time to go to church for VBS. – Flaute Rubinstein Family
Two families bringing grandma to family VBS.
Parents sitting with kids hearing and experiencing the Bible stories.
I started reading the Creation Story with my camp group and they kept asking me to read more. – Miss Clair
“VBS is my favorite week of camp.” – LCC Camper
Parents creating community, talking about parenting, and reconnecting while their kids enjoy games.
Youth stepping up in leadership and leading stations, drama, and setup.
Working parents enjoying VBS for the first time as leaders and participants.

Having VBS songs stuck in your head for days.
Talking with youth and adults and looking forward to begin planning VBS 2022.

 Calling All Ringers & Singers!

Reverberation Ringers and Chancel Choir fall Information– participants needed!

It has been so incredibly wonderful to make music with our groups again this last six weeks, as the state, local, and Linworth community guidelines have slowly shifted to accommodate meeting in person. We still have more to this journey, but the movement has been positive as the number of fully vaccinated increases.

This Sunday our Ringers and Singers shared music together in the service for the last time until fall. We stretched our strange and brief musical season through June, since it had been so long apart, and the fall choir and handbell season will be a normal and exciting one!

There’s no better time to get involved with the music of Linworth! Chancel Choir welcomes singers, ages high school through adult, and would especially benefit from tenor and bass voices as we come into the fall. We sing varied music throughout the year, plan special events in the Christmas and Easter seasons, and are open to those who might be seasonal singers because of travel or other commitments.

Our Reverberation Ringers choir is looking for a player to help in the bass bells section. Ringers need to have experience reading music, but we will teach you handbell technique. We have a great time building community and beautiful music each week!

  • Reverberation Ringers meets from 6:15-7:15 each Thursday during the choir year and plays in the service once per month.
  • The Chancel Choir meets from 7:30-9pm each Thursday after bells and sings to support the service most weeks from September through May.

If you are interested in joining us, each group is hosting a fall retreat day at the end of August. The Chancel Choir retreat will be Saturday, August 28th from 9:30am-1:30pm and will include lunch. The Reverberation Ringers retreat will be Sunday, August 29th, from 12:30 through 4pm and will be a joint event with Powell United Methodist Church’s handbell choir, and will also include lunch.
