Weekly Newsletter
Hi everyone,

First week of December with a touch of snow for fun - need I say more! To kick off our festive season, this week the CPAC is launching a new fundraiser. an Amazing gingerbread house with a "Frozen theme" will be on view  outside the front office from Monday onwards. Raffle tickets ($2) can be purchased before (8:30 to 9:00) and after (2:45 to 3:15) school on Thursday and Friday next week.  However, not only do you get a chance to win this house (as a Carisbrooke Parent) you are also automatically entered to win another gingerbead house (tickets are open to the community) which can be seen at Sprout Organic Market, 700 East 7th St. North Van (in Queensbury Village as the foot of Grand Boulevard) which will have a "Winter Wonderland" theme. Proceeds from the sale of the raffle tickets for both houses will go to Carisbrooke PAC.

Our FUNLUNCH order form for Jan to March is now open. Please complete your orders by the 12th December.

Traffic outside our school is an ongoing concern. We are located in a residential area, however we have all seen the changes with the traffic and number of cars on the North Shore over the past few years. We would like the areas around our school and the roads our children take to get to school to be as safe as they can possibly be.  The Provincial Government is seeking public input as they develop a transportation plan for the next 10 years. Please follow this link to the BC on the Move website, and take the survey. This  is a once in ten years opportunity, don't miss it. More details below.

Our school participates in the BC Nutritional Fruit and Veg Program thanks the organization of Ms Campbell and parent volunteers headed up by Judith Nitsch. What this means is that approximately once a month each child will receive a piece of fruit or veg as a sampler to expose children to healthy eating. Thank you to the volunteer team for the distribution of apples last Thursday.

Cheers

Comments from our Crossing Guard.
Of all the CPAC activities, none have a higher daily profile than our Crossing Guards. Our Crossing Guards volunteer in the rain, snow and sun and we all see them if we are near the school in the morning, and we notice if they are not there.

This is a comment from one of our crossing guards this week.

"Please be aware that there is no crossing guard currently after school and be extra vigilant"

Provincial Government Transportation Survey.
The BC Government is in the midst of writing their 10 year Transportation Plan and are looking for your feedback http://engage.gov.bc.ca/transportationplan. Consider using the comment section of the survey to ask that money be allocted to improving safety around our schools, by providing crosswalks, sidewalk letdowns at intersections, traffic calming, more signage, better lighting on roads and in all traffic planning to consider road access for all ages and abilities.
1. BC needs a provincial active transportation plan (as NS, ON, QC have): a provincial walking, cycling, and rolling strategy.
2. BC needs to fund and dedicate human resources to implement the provincial strategy.
3. Pedestrians-first approach (active transportation and safe routes) should be the top priority.
