Weekly Newsletter
Hi everyone,

Someone very kindly pointed out to me that it is now four Fridays until Christmas - how time has flown since school began in September. There are still however a number of events and activities to be held before Christmas finally arrives, such as the Scholastic Book Fair, the Christmas concert, the annual Giving Tree and, new this year, a Gingerbread House Raffle.

Our long awaited School Directory is also now complete with thanks to Tanya Scott, Pam Hoffman, Rebecca Telfer and Lucy Cayuela. It  will  be delivered next week to each class  and handed out to the youngest in each family. To manage printing costs only one book is allocated per household. If you do not receive one, a limited number of copies will be available at the front desk.

Our Shop for Carisbrooke program, which can be accessed through the CPAC website, runs throughout the year with various items for sale. These online shops include Magazine Sales, Carisbrooke Spirit Wear, Lavish and Lime and the label company Stuck on You. These are great fundraisers for the school as, for every purchase made, the CPAC receives a portion of the funds. Carisbrooke Spirit Wear currently has a winter clothing sale which runs until the 28th of November.

Remember this week is our first Scholastic Book Fair of the year,  which will run from Monday to Thursday and is held in the school library. There are still a couple of afterschool volunteer spots available, if you think you can volunteer please click here.

Cheers,

Victoria

Friday Lunchtime Activities
Our Friday lunchtime activities are up and running thanks to Rebecca Telfer and a host of volunteers. The library is open on Fridays during lunch for students who wish to escape the cold, rainy weather and play boards games with their friends.

Coffee with the PAC
Thank you to everyone who joined the PAC for an informal coffee on Friday morning. The PAC offers these coffees twice a year as an alternative to the full CPAC evening meetings, which occur four times a year. It is an opportunity to meet exec members and chat about various PAC activities. Younger siblings are very welcome.

Comments from our Crossing Guard.
Of all the CPAC activities, none have a higher daily profile than our Crossing Guards. Our Crossing Guards volunteer in the rain, snow and sun and we all see them if we are near the school in the morning, and we notice if they are not there. Rain, like we had this week, makes the roads outside the school even more hazardous for our children and has shown how important it is to ensure they are aware of standard road rules and can deal with the unexpected - crossing at the crosswalk and looking before they walk.

This is a comment from one of our crossing guards this week.

"Watch for the crossing guard's directions, they need to monitor both the cars movements and the pedestrians and it is their job to manage the flow of traffic through the crosswalk"

Provincial Report on Public Libraries
A report containing recommendations to government regarding public libraries have just been released that may be of interest to you. It is the Select Standing Commitee on Finance and Government Services report on their Budget 2015 Consultations.  Earlier this fall the Committee held province-wide public consultations  on next year's provincial budget. The comments of public libraries were highlighted in the report on page 21, and for the third year in a row, the Committee recommended that the government "restore the separate library line item in the Ministry of Education budget for public libraries, and commit to stable, ongoing funding."

The report is available here; the paragraph on public libraries can be found on page 21 and the recommendation is on page 25.
