Kia Ora!

It was great to finally meet so many of you in person last month at Play by Play - a big thank you to the entire NZGF planning committee for pulling off a really spectacular event!

There are now less than 3 months to NZGDC! We’re very excited to be joined by Sara Clemens for our opening keynote address, and we will be announcing our second keynote and opening up tickets soon.

Our call for speakers and panelists remains open until the end of this month, so if you have an idea for a talk or a panel please feel free to submit an application to come and share your ideas with us.

We’re also excited to learn of Australia’s new 30% tax rebate incentive for game development, which is a part of a larger Digital Economy Initiative. The good news is that our friends across the ditch will (starting in 2022) be able to take advantage of their first ever incentive program for games - and one of the most robust incentive programs world-wide.

The (less) good news is that we still don’t have an incentive program of our own!

To that end, the NZGDA will be stepping-up our outreach (and strengthening our message) to our partners in government, trade organisations, and other interactive media advocacy groups to reiterate how the NZ game development industry could benefit from a similar program. If you want to join the conversation, please head over to twitter and let me know what a 30% tax incentive would mean for you! Would you hire more staff? Or start your own studio? Or maybe move to fabulous New Zealand from wherever you live? I want to hear from you!

As always, if you have questions or news to share - feel free to tag us on Twitter (@nzgda), Instagram (@nzgamedev), or share on our Facebook group

Be safe out there and remember to use your Covid tracing app!
