Have we lost the art of conversation? Or has the way we converse just changes?
This week, we are discussing:

The lost art of conversation.

Or do we just converse differently?

Let me ask you a question. When was the last time you sat with a friend and really had a good chat. It seems that so much of our lives now are lived via text, facebook and email that opportunities to sit and reflect may be occurring less often.  When was the last time you sat with a friend and talked about your dreams, goals and aspirations? I find more and more people crave real conversations. Not just ones to catch up on what has been happening in each others lives, but those deeper ones where you get to speak out loud the things that are often just below the surface. With so much of our life being monitored, being online, being forced in to time packages, these opportunities seem to come up less often. On the weekend a friend and I went on a road trip. We sat at a beatiful winery in the country. Then we ended up and a country hotel and laid on the grass, watching the clouds go by while listening to the band play. There was no phone reception at either venue. It was so great to just really connect and to talk about hopes and dreams that often don't see the light of day in our busy worlds.

Many people have big dreams and goals and never get to hear out loud how they sound. I know when I am coaching a client and sometimes at our goal setting workshops it helps people to talk them through. They get clear on what resonates fully with them rather than just having an idea about something. One example I can think of is someone who thought they wanted to learn sky-diving. When they started to talk it out though, they felt a sensation in their stomach and realised that they didn't actually want to do that at all. It's only when you start to talk about them that you instinctively know if they are right for you. And having conversations with good friends allows those instincts to come forward.

Over the next week or so, just notice what sort of conversations are you having. Are they ones that help you to explore where you are in life and where you want to go? Or are they online, monitored, edited and superficial? And make an effort to seek out some of those deeper conversations in your world. Let me know how you go.

have a great week.

Til next time
