ita about that time of year when motivation to stick to resolutions starts to wear out. School holidays are coming, easter is almost here and life is busy. We give you tips to keep on track.
This week, we are discussing:

How to stay motivated

when life gets in the way.


Many people start the year with great intentions. And as the year goes on they find ways to let themselves 'off the hook' when it comes to following through on commitments. While knowing why we do this may be helpful, it is far more beneficial to know how to change it when the feeling comes into our awareness that we -
  • can't be bothered,
  • don't have time
  • don't have the money
or any number of other excuses we give ourselves.

One of the most common things we stop doing is excercise. I cannot tell you how many times I have started an excersize routine and stopped after a few months. Friends also have started and then find excuses disguised as 'reasons' why they can't continue. We do those things that we value and if we value good health we will find the motivation. If we don't we have to ask if it really is that important to us.

The same goes for anything that you are striving for -
  • Wealth,
  • Fitness,
  • Great relationship,
  • Education.
So here are a couple of tips for staying motivated when you can't be bothered.
  1. Music - there are some songs that just make me feel good and when I feel good then I can achieve more. Sometimes just playing a really uplifting beautiful song will work. Other times it might be something angry, or a dance tune or something you can sing along with.
  2. Change of scenery - perhaps you are getting bored with doing the same thing in the same place. If you are studying, take your books and computer to a cafe for a change, or the library. If it is excersize, maybe go for a walk instead of doing a class. Find a way to make it more exciting.
  3. Ask friends and mentors how they stay motivated. You will have people in your circle who are great at getting things finished and staying on task. Ask then what their secrets are.
  4. Be kind to yourself. If you 'fall of the wagon' just accept that and get started again. There is no point in beating yourself up about not being perfect. We are all human and occassionaly we may just not be up to it.
